My name is Michael Miller and I’m doing some research on becoming a helicopter pilot in the hopefully very near future. Right now I’m in the south pacific, which means talking to different helicopter pilots and companies makes it a bit rough for me to do some research on the career.

The three questions I have for you guys is how would you go about getting your helicopter license along with a good amount of hrs. First question, how many hours would I need to have before anyone would hire me (any job)? Second question, about how much money do I need to have in order to get the training I need, in order to get hired? Third question, how do most pilots go about getting to be like an EMS pilot? Like, is there a fast way, or does it simply take a really long time to get there.

I’m a sophomore in college right now, and am in the debate whether to take out a huge loan and get all my training out of the way, or to get a construction job or something and slowly earn enough money to get my training done. If I knew I would be able to get a job after all my training, I would probably take the loan out, but if I wouldn’t be able to get a job soon after completing my training, than I would think twice about the loan.

I don’t know much about all this whole helicopter business. All I know, is that after my 20minute ride in one, I’m hooked and would like to be a really good pilot. Any advice on this subject would be really helpful, Thanks!

I was just talking to a guy last night, and he said that his friend's first job after getting his commercial license was transporting crews out to oilrigs, is that a good possibility for me?

One more question, does it matter where you get your training? Like, do the pilots that get trained at a well known training facility get better jobs over someone who goes somewhere else?

Thanks for your help!

Michael
