joker Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 OK, I'd like to develop a theme started in another thread...helicopters in movies. But here, I'd simply like to collect a list of movies / TV where helicopters are used. The list would include a very brief description of the shot(s), helicopters used, length etc..etc. Limited discussion, just an objective list... What d'ya think? Joker I'll start with that all time favourite...P.S. (This is not the best, as I'm on holiday and this is off the top of my head!) Film: Apocolypse NowHelicopter Types: HueyLength Of Clip: Multiple Shots - best being about 2-5 mins long set to the music of Wagner's Ring - Ride of the Vakyries!Description: Many helicopters in formation preparing an attack on a village. Guest rookie101 Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 hmmm...let me think here Film: OutbreakHelicopter(s): multiple apperances of MD-500's and UH-1'sLength: latter half of the movie. Includes a chase between an MD and Huey Film: SwordfishHelicopter(s): MD-900 Explorer, Bell 429 (?), and the S-64 (Erickson Aircrane)Length: The MD shows up in the last 20 mins. and get's blown up, the 429 shows up only briefly, but the aircrane is in there for 5-8 min carrying a bus Film: Italian JobHelicopter(s): MD-530Length: Near the end of the movie there is some superb flying by the pilot which includes a chase scene and some low level hovering in an enclosed loading area. Film: X-Men 2Helicopter(s): Bell-210 I think and Boeing 107 Vertol (Columbia Helicopters)Length: Brief, when the school is invaded the 107 is unloading some troops and the 210's are just flying around. The 107 had a grey/black color scheme. Vaqueroaero Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Deadly Encounter - Hughes Charlie model. Starring Larry Hagman. Dreadful acting and storyline, but simply breathtaking flying. Made by a helicopter pilot for helicopter pilots. I had the honor of meeting Mr Hagman and asked him about the stunts. His reply: "It was nuts". Quote

I want that mustang!!!Thanks rookie! I was gonna break out my copy of the movie and watch it just for that clip but maybe I'll just get a screenie for ya. Thanks again! And yeah, I want that Mustang as well! Isn't it cool how we get excited about helicopters and everywhere we go, that's all we see? I'm walking past the video store in the mall the other day and nearly broke my neck when I saw a helicopter flying on the TV screens. What is wrong with me? Oh, found this site that ya'll might be interested in. It's an index of Rotary Flight in the movies. Don't cheat now. You have to come up with a movie you actually know of. Here's the link: Rotary Action Quote
nbit Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I highly advise seeing this thread at verticalmag.com. It has 36 pages of helicopter movie information replies from the members there with lots of helicopter movie trivia. Quote
WHIRLYDUDE Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 The film speed with keanu reeves and sandra bullock . Brilliant shot looking down from above thru the rotors of a MD530 notar onto the bus . Seen that on big screen tv many times . Also first blood with stalone at the beginning i think its a 206 jetranger and stalone throws a stone at the windscreen . Quote
klas Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I was partial to Birds of Prey, starring David Janssen, when I was young. Quote

Heli_Girl Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 There are just sooo many movies to list off... But one thing i have noticed from seeing Helis in movies is that just about all of them end up getting blown up or shot down! Anyone else seem to notice this? Oh another movie..S.W.A.TMany Helis throughout the movieHuey dropping them off in the beginning, Police heli getting shot by a sniper(another downed heli, as i said), and other helis following the convoy through downtown.
