FXBGHELOS Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Hello, I have taken a few lessons both Helo and Airplane, of course I enjoy the helicopter so much more. I am planning on starting lessons at CBHelos down in Cheaspeake soon even though its about a two hour drive from where I live. I prefer the 300cb to the robbie - even though there are pros and cons to both. I have also taken a few lessons at American Helos up in manassas. They are a good group too. I'd like to get to know fellow helicopter enthusits in the richmond/tidewater/northern va area. Please feel free to drop me an email or a post. thanks. Quote
mechanic Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Hi FXBGHELOS, I post to caution you about the 2 hr commute. I have been doing a 2 hr commute myself for over a year now. If you work and have a family be prepared for slow progress and scheduling problems. I thought I could manage my time, but life happens when you least expect it. You can expect to spend 6- 8 hrs of each day towards getting a min of 1 hr grd and 1.3 air time, unless you can spend the whole day at the school, which I can't do. Anyway's, good luck! Have fun. Regards I understand where your comming from. i commute to my day job daily over an hour ...my plans are to go to the school about every 2 weeks and do at least 2 hours of flying and prob at least an hour of ground. Thats the only way I can manage. If i put aside a day every 2 weeks and take the family to the beach first..it might work out :-). Just hope I can solo by about hour 10 or 12. I'm definately not there yet. If things work out right I might be looking for a CFI or CFII in the area for possible flying job. training and news. etc...i'd like to know whats available in the northern va and south of there areas. thanks. nemesisrides Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 First of all, it is most important you get your back sorted out before you spend any money on flight trianing! If you are going to make it in this business, you will no doubt build hours as a CFI sat in a R22. This is NOT a good place to be if you have back problems. Secondly, do not believe a single word uttered by Neil Brooks, the owner of Aquila Aviation. He will tell you alsorts of false information just to get that money in his account. His claims of being an ex Huey pilot etc, complete BS! He failed his check ride for his heli PPL. Would an ex Naval aviator? No, I don't think so. As far as hiring the pupils, well you will be working for nothing if you do manage to get as far as CFI. But very few students make it that far at this school, as the standard if instruction so poor. Learn from my mistakes, steer well clear!!!! Quote
