Guest rookie101
I read that this morning, very sad situation for him, at least everyone walked away. Does anyone have any info on what experimental helo it was? I was guessing it might have been one of those Safari's we were talking about a while back. EDIT- I just checked the pics. on that thread and the tail boom of the crashed helo is bigger than that of the safari http://helicopterforum.verticalreference.com/helicopterfor...=3881&hl=safari
delorean
Looks like a Rotorway to me since the T/R is on the right side of the tailcone. It's definately NOT a Safari/BabyBell--those have a truss type tailboom just like the larger B47.
DeltaMikeCharlie
at least everyone walked away. Does anyone have any info on what experimental helo it was? I'm not 100% sure but the framework, stabilizer and the way the material melted looks a lot like a Rotorway.I took the photo from the news article and compared them to those at the builders site. The builders site has a lot of warnings about how to change the routing of oil and fuel lines to prevent damage to them. Apparently the suggested routing leaves a little to be desired. I believe that the article stated 1995, not 1955. Doug
Huey
If you ask me the fire saved that guy's life. He's broke again but still kick'n. I'm scared to think he'll try again! "I had enough to get me a used one." For a kit copter, that's almost as bad as " hey, watch this" for a Robbie.

rotor91
No insurance? Can't you get insurance for an experimental?
Gomer Pylot
Any insurance you can get is likely to be more expensive than you can afford. I certainly wouldn't insure a second-hand homebuilt if I were running an insurance company.
jimbo2181
Anyone have any thoughts on starting a fund to try and make some of the money back for the guy..."I saved $5 a week for 20 years" almost makes me cry...obviously the guy wants it more than anything.
