Witch
I have a problem. I've found several nomex flight suits, and the least expensive is $99 in black. The next is khaki at $129. The black one might be ok for winter but hot in summer. The khaki might be cooler in summer, but it's like everyone has khaki and green. I don't know what to do. The aquisition of a flight suit is imperative to the continuation of flight training. If I get one, then I'll have a reason to keep flying. Please help! This is driving me insane. Later Heli-o, I just googled "nomex flight suits" and I found every thing from white to safety orange, 1 and 2 peice suits from $49 - $300. The tan and the Two peice suits look pretty good. Personaly I found that no matter what color or how thin it looks nomex is hot in the summer, but from personal experiance it will take what might have been burn to the bone and make it a cat I or II burn. If you ever want to see the dramatic differance between wearing and not find the safety video "Charlie". Ask anybody who works in the GOM and they will probibly give you the correct name and how many times the have watched it. I can think of better reasons to be going crazy......Lack of altitude!!! permison
i have the same problem witch,,,, all started for me when i was about 9 & mom made me pick out my own school clothes,,,, son of a ! Witch, ignore posts like this. I have survived two significant crashes (one as PIC and one as passenger) only becuse I had the correct survival gear on. As often as I can I fly helicopters with proper safety equipment such as a helmet and nomex flight suit. I can fly (heck walk) today becuse I was waring a helmet in a crash of a helicopter. There is good evidance to support Frank Robinsons recent safety advisory about flight suits and helmets. But as always people will argue with facts. Yes, I get some jokes about the gear where I fly but heck I got a few dates too. Women love men in uniform.
Witch
Here's the $99 stuffhttp://www.flightsuits.com/clear_unif_nmx_men.html RW, Everyone needs a reason to fly. Why not this one? 67, I saw those. They're for mechanics-of which I am-but I'm skeptical that they're nomex. HB, No forcing and Franks recomendation has nothing to do with it. I think it just looks neato. Pokey, My wife hates the clothes I buy, so she buys them for me. I don't like fuscha. Permission, I'm not gonna crash. I forbid it. But nomex does look cool. Really, I've been wanting to get a nomex flight suit mainly because of those "suprises" that pop up. I'm working on a helmet also, the ones on Ebay get snagged up before I can even think of bidding on one. And those $20 helmets from China I bet aren't crashworthy. I figure I'll find something sometime. I have limited finances for stuff like this. One other thing; I think I'll get the khaki one. That's what the girls in the office think I should get. Mike says black so I don't look like I fly for Silver State. Later

Next time I enter an auto I will just forbid the helicopter from crashing ;-) You can get some pretty good deals on Ebay for helmets. I have two Army issue Gentex helmets (SPH4 and SPH5) I have purchesed with non working headsets or mics and just ordered replacement parts from flightsuits.com. It has worked out pretty well for me. I think I got one for $100 from ebay and $80 to replace the mic and speakers. The only helmet you want is Gentex. Avoid anything else like the plauge. Why not this one? They're for mechanics-of which I am-but I'm skeptical that they're nomex. Later Heli-o, Mechanics wear Nomex too, If I was stateside I'd send you a couple of pair along with the nomex thread to have them altered. They are Blue. If you want I'll see if I can explain to my friend where I packed them up to go and find them. For expensive as they are I normaly wouldn't offer but I have about 20+pair. (I worked the GOM) Send me your size and I'll see if he can locate one my army flight suits (olive drab), they would be med longs, The maint suits I have range from small to large, depending on weather I was wearing shorts or cold weather gear under them (and a little as to how well I was eating!) .lol, is why I have so many. Not as expensive and taking a little more work to maintain you can get the treated cotton suits, you just have to wash them by themselves and about every third washing treat them with the fire retardent. They work pretty good too as long as you keep the treatments up and they tend to be a little cooler durring the summer. IMO. I treat my jeans and flanel shirts I use for welding, BIG differance. I have one too many burn scars from untreated cotton. Dave When it comes to safety, you can never be too safe.

Gomer Pylot
Nomex is only cool (actually freezing cold) in the winter. In the summer, it's deathly hot. Nomex is the most uncomfortable fabric I've ever worn, and I'm glad I don't have to wear it now.
