Gerhardt
I renewed my medical this morning. Until she handed me the card as I was paying I had no idea there would be an asterisk attached. "must wear corrective lenses while exercising the privileges of airman certificate". "Hey, what's this?" "I'm sorry, Mr. Gerhardt, but you're getting older." I'm only 41!

Gomer Pylot
You need to find a more lenient AME. Mine gives multiple-choice eye exams, and I can still pass without any restrictions, even though my near vision is pretty weak. I do have senile presbyopia, and I use reading glasses for most reading, but I can get by if I don't use them for a week or so before I get my exam. I am 54also a good vitamin for eye health, also a chipratric adjustment helps. I have dropped my scrip 1 diopterI also hear the bate's method works to improve vision
propwasher
He might have some trouble getting that "must wear glasses" restriction removed from his medical. Maybe a call to AOPA Aeromedical would be in order. They are supposed to have all the answers. Wag - what kind of eye vitamins do you recommend for us old farts? Gomer Pylot
It's not that difficult to get it removed. All you have to do is pass another medical without needing glasses. I once had 'must possess corrective lenses for near vision' on my medical, but it went away on the next exam. I still keep them, because my near vision is admittedly far from perfect, and my AME knows I have them, but I can legally fly back home if I break or lose them. It gets more difficult every year, but I intend to keep trying, even though I always have my reading glasses in my pocket.
