Hey guys, new to the forum so bear with my newbie questions. I am looking into the feasibility (or stupidity!) of starting a new helo business (very few around here). I've been spending some time searching the forums but still have a few questions that I'm hoping you guys can help with. So here goes. One thing is insurance. I read somewhere that you can figure 10% of the hull value. Of course that depends on pilot experience, etc. So, my question is, do most of the operators out there average about 10%? I've also heard there's only about 5 companies that still insure helicopters. Is that true? Who do you recommend I start with?

Another question regards pricing. For an MD500E, can someone tell me on average what the customer is typically paying per hour? I realize this depends on the type of flying...utility patrol, aerial survey, etc. Are MD's docs of ~$280 per hour close?

Last question, thanks for sticking with me....how hard is it to get a single pilot 135 certificate? Is this the best way to start out?

Thanks for any help you guys can offer. I'm still trying to figure out if this is a pipe dream. If you'd rather just send me PM. Thanks, RJ
