cctk2
do you participate in this program and who many sets of wings do you have? http://www.faa.gov/safety/awards/wings/ Ohhhh..... Id contemplated it over the years, especially whilst sitting in hour after hour of CFI Refresher Clinics over the years, (though I dont do that anymore either as I do it all On-line now)... And the dual I get is just with 135 Checkrides, so the Wings things just hasnt stirred my interest all all for 10+ years...
Gerhardt
I just started last year and picked up 1 set of mini wings. There happened to be an interesting presentation at the FBO and I was getting the biennial review anyway so I just extended the flight time. permison
I do it and I am also a FAAST rep (I can approve/sign your paperwork ). IMO It's a great program. I am dual rated so it can be expensive to keep current on everything. But the important thing is not to avoid the BFR, it's really about safety and currency. The Wings program gives you guidance and direction on where to focus for maintaining both your currency and your safety. Far too many pilots just take the BFR every two years and don't take training in between. The Wings program ensures you keep up to date on "some" of the important safety issues which effect pilots. I am on a contract which lets me fly myself to the client site every week. I had not been exposed to icing for sometime. We recently had a Wings program around icing and flying that was very helpful. Didn't cost me a dime and covered topics I am not sure I could have gotten from hiring a local CFI for an hour or two. I recommend it for everyone for more then just the little wings.Permison
delorean
I'm on Phase VIII.... BTW, the WINGS program ends on 12/31/2006, so it doesn't mean much now. They have a new program that's suppose to be more like the mechnic proficiency. You'll get to higher levels by attending more meetings, flight training, etc in a given amount of time rather than just doing a set amount each year. Gomer Pylot
I used to, but we haven't been getting them the last few years. I got up to 12, and then they started me over at 1 for some reason. I got back up to maybe 8, and then we just stopped hearing about it. New safety guy at the FSDO, I guess, and he wasn't interested, or something like it.
Goldy
I go to 3 or 4 of the free seminars each year...most are really good, and some exceptional. I've never done any of the flight ime though, so I've never even gotten my first set of wings. IMHO, this is probably the LEAST known program out there...when I was a student, I would go and usually I was the only student pilot in the group. EAGLE1
I am on phase VI. To bad it is going away. I attend the meetings and put in the flight time anyway so I go ahead and file the paperwork.
