Where in the FARs does it explain marginal VFR? I swear after i make my first million (long shot) I'm going to hire a lawyer and permanently attach them to my FAR/AIM. "Ok, now explain this." haha

"MARGINAL VFR" is described in the AIM. The term is associated with weather reporting and means visibility 3 - 5 miles or ceilings 1000 - 3000 feet. I can't give you an exact page reference in the AIM because I don't have it with me. Sorry. Also, you might find something about it in "Aviation Weather Services", which I believe is AC 00-6A.

Always a favorite of mine. AIM 7-1-7. I had a very, very sharp student that couldn't find it in the FAR/AIM and spent a while looking for it, swearing it wasn't there, he was most impressed as I walked through the room and he asked and I spit it out without breaking stride. It's one of the few references I know off the top of my head. I still trip over 61.56 and 61.57.
