In your opinion what are the Sexiest Civilian Birds?

I was speaking in terms of how much it lifts to how much power it has.

K-MAX 1325 horsepower 12000 lb gross weight = 9.05 lbs/hp

S-64E 9118 horsepower 42000lb gross weight = 4.6 lbs/hp

Helicopters seldom fly empty so performance at empty weight is kind of moot in my opinion.

B)

I still don't see your point.....Wouldn't less weight per hp (S-64) mean better performance??

Working it from your angle:

Brantly 1665 lb gross weight and 180 horsepower = 9.25 lbs/hp

R22 has got 1298 gross weight @ 130HP for takeoff = 9.98 lbs/ hp.

Or the Scweizer 300C, 2050 lb (2150 with external load) @ 190 hp = 10.79 lbs/hp (11.31 lbs/hp ext load).

The 139 has my vote.

Looks like you guys at CHC won't be get one of those (or an S-92) anytime soon CR.

Taken from CHC Q3 financial report at PPRuNe (http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=268299)

So far this year the Sikorsky S92 and AgustaWestland AW139 have had a combined availability rate of 75%. Even though it is normal that new aircraft types have a lower rate of availability during the introduction period, the current performance of the S92 and AW139 is unacceptable. The Company is currently in discussions with the manufacturers to remedy this situation as soon as possible by increasing spare parts production and improving technical support and aircraft design.

I can’t believe there haven’t been any votes for the AH-64A/D, and the AH6 little bird.

Ewww he said the "A" word...

Personally the Apache would get my vote as one of the ugliest and most expensive POS aircraft made ;)

Give me a Huey or MH-60 anyday over an Apache! I havent seen any civilian versions of the MH so I will have to go with the UH version. Pure sexA!!

Tie between MD-500E and MD-600N --- Domestic Sexy!!

Serious contender for #1 spot is the EC-120 --- Import Sexy!!

(unfortunately anything European cannot hold #1 spot in my bias mind)

Sorry to link off site, but this thread is like helicopter porn Helicopter Pics thread on PPRunNe I wasted a good part of this morning and I didn't even see them all.

Oh yeah, my favorite is the MD5/600 series. I fell in love with that bird on Magnum P.I. and watched the enitre series just to see it, I even have Roger Mosley's autograph in my old log book. I was lucky to meet him at College Park Airport back in '89, at the airport's 80th birthday celebration.

If you asked what are the coolest helicopters, then I would have to agree with those that say 500s or Vertols, or Hueys...

But sexy looking helicopters, I would have to say the Bell 430, (probably for the similarity to the 222 and subsequent memories of Airwolf) and even the S76, they are sleek.

For me, the sexiest is Agusta's A109

IMO It is just the sleekest and smoothest looking of the sleek and smooth designs.

Whatever you can say about Italians and their capabilities in other areas, they really know how to make something beautiful!

For skid gear, I really like the EC 130 in the Wright Patton Shakespeare livery (black and silver) that I saw a picture of once, but I can't find it now.

Found one!

don't know about sexy but my favorite choppers would be-

1) Westland Seaking/ s61 = the backbone of SaR for 30 years.

2) EH101- successor to above with all new technology

3) Westland Wessex HC2 = many hours spent in them in my younger days (am only 28 but they have all been  pensioned off now)

4) Bell 412 = primary SaR/EMS chopper here in OZ.

(As you can tell i am a crewman, the pilots among probably prefer more nimble aircraft!!)

EC135 easily. Beautiful helicopter.

Actually, I have been building 1:32 models of an EC145 and a 135 lately, (Swiss HEMS and mountain rescue versions) and I have to agree they have both really grown on me, they are good looking helicopters.
