what? and where?

Sun-n-Fun in Lakeland Fl. http://www.sun-n-fun.org/

It's the 2nd largest airshow in the US. Not quite as large as Oskosh. It's mainly for homebuilts and experimental aircraft. Lots of stuff for the EAA crowd and a large aviation mall/flea market.

I missed Sun-n-Fun last year-

Hope I can make it down this time-

It's great fun if you like warbirds and general aviation.

Several thousand aircraft show up annually.

Half the fun is watching the mass landings and departures.

There's a lot to see. Daily airshows are great-

I especially liked the night time air show there two years ago.

Pretty exciting complete with fireworks shooting from T-6s

while flying in formation doing loops, etc.

I've never seen much chopper stuff there (some home builts, etc.).

Things you'll need: good walking shoes, plenty of sun screen and

a beach blanket to watch the airshow from.

Hopefully I'll see ya'll there.

Still working out the specifics on days I will be attending. I am flying myself down with a friend in a rental. But I expect to be there the 20th-21st. Once I nail it down I post up a meeting place and time. It probably will be somewhere at chopper town. They usually have a food vendor outside of the chopper town fence with picnic tables and we could meet there.

Are they having any military fighter jet demonstrations?

Air Force will have some kind of hardware there.

Year before last they had an F-16 do an air show.

F-16 also did formation with F-86, F-4 and P-51D to

honor air crews from WWII, Korea, Viet Nam and Gulf Wars.

I heard there was a F-22 Raptor there last year.

Usually a A-10 Wart Hog there also.

Plus lots of cool vintage warbird aircraft.

Ok gang, I am heading down the 19th and will be at the show the 20th and 21st. Why don't we all plan to meet in front of Chopper town on the 20th (for those that are there that day). There is usually a food vendor there with picnic tables. I will put up something that says Vertical Reference or something so we can all find each other. Who's up for it?

Ok, gang. I will look for you guys at 1 on Friday (AOPA day) at the airshow. Right in front of Chopper town there will be a food stand with picnic tables. I will be hanging out there at 1pm. See ya then.

The girlfriend and I hope to make it down on Friday-

We'll be flying a 44, tail number 27GT.

Be sure and say hello.

Last years show was the first time I saw an F22. Worth going just for that. The helicopter junk at sun n fun is definitely small. Mostly crazy homebuilders.

Just back from "sun n fun".

First time I ever flew in by helicopter. It was pretty good fun.

No F22 Raptor this year- but the B1 bomber fly by was pretty hot.

Sorry I didn't run into any Vertical Reference members-

I stayed for about 30 minutes to have lunch out at chopper town and didn't see anyone either. Silver State had a big presence though. Lost my appitite after they showed up in flight suits and took off. Still at the FBO waitting for the rain to clear. I will post pics when I get home.

Here are a few pics from the Airshow ( http://www.part61.org/jpermison/Snf07/ ). We were supposed to take 2 DA-40s down but had mech issues and wound up taking one of the gangs Grumman. The show was a blast as always. Came home with lots of toys. The DA-40 is really painful on long flights but I got my G1000 endourcement on the way down (which makes it worth it). The Garmin panel sucks too....we had the whole system crash on us twice, and one time when it crashed ATC lost our transponder, forgot about us on flight following and we came within 200 feet of a twin head on. Quick reactions on both my and the twin drivers saved us from a near midair. Needless to say the show was great! The flight back was pretty tiring as we had to do a lot more work in the Tiger. So by the time we took those last few pics we were pretty wasted. Getting people together for Oskosh here soon if anyone in the DC area wants a seat.
