RotorRunner Posted September 11, 2007 Author Posted September 11, 2007 (edited) I wish these guys would buy a Schweizer!!! Heck, I'd probably rent it enough to make the payments on it. Then they could get one more person to rent it enough to pay the insurance, then all the the rest is proffitt. I know there are some "thens" involved, but somebody needs to get a Schweizer machine in the Knoxville, TN market!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RR Edited September 11, 2007 by RotorRunner Quote

RotorRunner Posted September 11, 2007 Author Posted September 11, 2007 Why don't you guys get together and buy a helicopter? I do not have the experience nessassary for ownership yet. I am not an A&P. I don't know how to get one insured. Scenic already has all these bases covered. Quote
Collective Down! Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 What about the tourism and charter side? Anyone ever worked for them? Is there a busy season or is it year round? Pay, schedule, equipment condition, etc? Maybe I should repost outside of the flight training forum... Quote
RotorRunner Posted September 11, 2007 Author Posted September 11, 2007 http://www.tennesseeflighttraining.com/Try this and see if it works. Tracy Thanks for the new link. I had a link to another site, that was attached to another site, owned by the same guy. Now the problem... I am slightly over the seat limit in a R22 and I don't like them either. I know a pilot that flies out of Collegedale (where this guy is supposed to be) on almost a daily basis and he said he has never seen a Schweizer there. Don't know... Wish I did. Right now it is getting some work done out in Oklahoma. If you are interested give me a call @ 253-797-4578 Thanks. Quote

Apache Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 RotorRunner, If you don't mind me asking, where do you live? I'm also about 45-60 min from Pigeon Forge, in Greeneville. I will probably be moving to Knoxville after Christmas and hope to get started back into flight school at the same time. Quote

michaelmiller85 Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I have actually been getting my training done with Scenic this summer. The people there are friendly, couldn't ask for better people. They have been going through some transition, they lost a couple of CFII to EMS positions. Currently they have two R-22, three R-44, and two Jet Rangers. The prices on their website are not their up to date prices though, their current prices for the R-22 is around $350/hr due to a strange lease. They hope to be getting rid of them soon and buying some of their own. Another place that offers flight training is right down the road from Scenic Helicopter Tours, the place is call Smoky Mountain Helicopters. They have one R-22 and a couple of Long Rangers. The rates for them are currently $200/hr with instructor. They are in the process of turning the R-22 into an instrument ship here as soon as someone is wanting to do instrument training. I am thinking about getting my Instrument license with them, simply do to the low cost! Michael Quote

Michael first off, THANK YOU.... this is the information i was trying to get out of someone by resurrecting this post. what do you know about the charter and tourism side? is the company staying busy with charter/tours? is it a seasonal business? are those charter pilots also flight instructing? do they use the R44 for both instruction and tours/charter? at 350/hour i can believe they have any business. thanks Quote

I am thinking about getting my Instrument license with them, simply do to the low cost! Michael I took a flight with Smoky Mountain Helicopters yesterday. This was the first time for me to try my hand at helis. I come from the fixed wing side. Their rates for the 22 right now is $225 with instructor. I think the guy said there is only 1 or 2 folks doing some training right now. I went over to Scenic to try and get a flight but the guy at the front sort of looked puzzled when I asked him about a training flight. He said their training was booked up until April. I didn't ask the rates here after he told me that everything was booked up until April. I don't know if he misunderstood what I was asking and thought I wanted to start training right then, or what. On the other hand, I only have good things to say about Smoky Mountain Helicopters. When I first stopped by, they gave me a business card of the owner and told me to call him since he does the scheduling for the training. I gave him (the owner) a call early yesterday morning but didn't get a response so I left him a voice mail. He called me back later that evening and said he was working up in KY and didn't have a chance to call me back but he said he'd have an instructor waiting for me in about 45 minutes if I still wanted to go. I'm not sure how many instructors they've got there, but I would say only a couple. It looks like a good place to do training. I would start training up there if I wasn't so far away. I was just up there for the weekend. Well, thats about enough talking for now, just thought I'd give a little insight about the place. Quote
preacher Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Sorry to inform you that we have discontinued our flight training for the time being. We hope to restart in the spring. Thanks for your interest, Dandan@scenichelicoptertours.com This is a reply from Scenic I got last Monday the 24th of September. Quote
