Goldy Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I unknowingly flew a Beta II about 100 pounds overweight when I was a student (there was 100 pounds of ballast under the instructors seat) It was about 20C and 600MSL and I could not hover one foot off the ground without pulling over max power. There would not get off the ground without pulling 27 inches. Must have been heavily loaded, 2 big guys and a lot of fuel maybe?? 24 inches will usually lift any overweight ship at 20C/600...even 100 pounds overweight. I think the lesson learned is never pull that kind of power. Something is wrong somewhere, and you really want to get back on the ground and figure out what it is. Had that been a turbine, you would be spending 50K right now. Funny, my post in April I said I would never buy a used R22...I bought a used one 3 months later...never say never ! Goldy Quote

Goldy Yeah we are about 200/180 and had about 120lbs of fuel, which puts us right at gross, without the 100 lbs of ballast. And yes, thats the lesson I learned from it. Quote
