fly2001 Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Can anyone recommend a good, fair flight surgeon for me in the general sacramento, northen california area? I'm looking to get my very first exam soon, and I hear its important to ask around with other pilots for good docs. Thanks Quote
slick1537 Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Look on the FAA website for your nearest FAA doctor. Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Nearest and best are not necessarily synonymous. I agree that it's a good idea to ask around. I've had a couple of very bad experiences with AMEs, and if my current one dies or retires, I'm going to be very disappointed. Sorry, though, I can't help with anything outside the Houston, TX area. ADRidge Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 What about in the Houston area? I'm out around San Antonio... would that be too far for the FAA's liking? Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 The FAA doesn't care where you get the exam, that's up to you. I use Dr. Richard Conway in Friendswood, and I know a lot of others who do. Quote
Stephen Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Yeah, I don't really get why it matters where you get the exam. They all have the same tests to administer, and the standards for passing/failing are all the same. If you pas/fail at one doctor, chances are that you will get the same results at the other doctor. I'm from Canada, but the standards for our medical certificates are almost identical if I remember correctly. I did my class-1 a few weeks back with no problems. Quote
slick1537 Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 You don't have to tell my twice gomer. I called my nearest one about 3 weeks ago and they said the soonest date I could get in was may 29th. Then they called last week and said they had to reschedule because the doctor (actaully an eye doctor) had surgery. So I called back and they said june 29th was the nearest one. I was pretty pissed but I said ok put me down for that. Then I got to calling other ones and I have an apointment today with a guy who is retired and only does flight physicals. Its a little farther drive. I think it is a pretty rude to tell a paying customer 1 month you have to wait, then call them again and tell them they need to wait another month. Quote
