In the world of helicopters, is there any specific chopper(s) you can point out as the "Ferrari" ? In other words, which is the fastest and/or most agile bird u flown/know..?

I liked the Big Rig (-64A)

It was a hoot to fly. Fasted I ever saw was 184 KTAS. She danced well enough for me. I never wanted anything the 'D' model had. I just wanted a better FLIR; TADS and PNVS (which it has now I heard). Definately the 'ride of a life time'. Three and a half years later I really, really miss her and the folks that fixed her and I flew with, just not what was written on the side.

Diving rocket fire was fun....30mm on the pull out to cover was a good treat. RTT's were a good time too.

Good Memories......

That video was good but the narrator reminded me too much of boring junior high/high school science classes.

Personally, I'm partial to this video showing what the 105 can do:

I know it's been posted here before but I never get tired of seeing it.

Wonder if the pilot(s) is still around to talk about it?

I will go to the opposite end of the spectrum and put my vote in for the -53. Probably not as agile as the smaller machines, but it will out run them.

It is also capable of loops and rolls.

-47s are pretty quick too. They'll walk away from their gunship escorts.

Semi rigid with a four blade system??? Hmmmm

It is a hingeless or rigid rotor design, not semi-rigid. It is more correct to call it hingeless because it is not completely rigid. Lead-lag and flapping actions do occur, but they do so through blade bending.

A semi-rigid rotor system has a hub which moves and a rigid rotor like the bell 206.

dosent the british militarys lynx hold the record for being the fastest chopper to fly??

I love the A109, I think it's a beautiful aircraft, but mattcob is right, the Royal Navy's Lynx Mk8, at 180 knots would leave an A109 standing!

They're not overly pretty though, they just have the advantage of big engines so it's not really a "Ferrari", more like a muscle car, not sleek but insanely powerful! :P

Ferrari is not all about speed. It about sex appeal and beauty. Heck, I can buy a $12,000 Japanese motorcycle that will blow away a Ferrari any day of the week. But if I want the Ferrari of motorcycles, it is going to be a Ducati.

I'd have to say for my money it's the BO-105, or the Gazelle they are quick and nimble or my personal favorite the MD 530f. Although the 530f is more of a Corvette than a Ferrari. I have never had the chance to fly a Gazelle but I am told it a very capable aircraft.
