klmmarine Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 I know I left that instructor around here somewhere? Oh yeah, on the ground! After stalling for a week to see if I could save some money by flying at another school, I finally bit the bullet and had my 1st solo today, .5 hovering and 1.2 flying patterns. It is amazing how much power there is in that little thing when the CFI gets out, I reminded him to stay away from the donuts. With the aft CG shift it was like riding on a Robinson manufactured recliner. Quote

Congrats on the solo..won't be long now. 1.2 flying patterns !! Wow...boring! I can hardly do 3 patterns and I have to head for the hills ! Good luck Edited June 16, 2007 by Goldy Quote
propwasher Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 I know I left that instructor around here somewhere? Oh yeah, on the ground! Way to go Keith! All that hard work and saying "NO!" to the bags of candy pays off! You've jumped off the deep end, Buddy!!!! Kevin Quote
zemogman Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Nice to hear about your solo...I'm happy for you and I'm looking forward to my own solo even more now (hopefully in the next couple of weeks) Great job... BTW...How did you feel? (Nervous, confident, weird...etc) Quote
klmmarine Posted June 16, 2007 Author Posted June 16, 2007 BTW...How did you feel? (Nervous, confident, weird...etc) The first .5 I was fine, hovering around and picking up and setting down. The first few patterns were a little stressful because I realized that I didn't have anyone to bail me out of trouble and because I hadn't gotten used to the difference in the aircraft handling characteristics with only one person aboard. After that it was great! Quote
zemogman Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Cool... I get a bit shaky on the set downs...I want to do them just perfect and I think that might be were I'll be a bit nervous when it's my turn to solo. The good thing is that I have to land sometime right??? Fly safe...I'll post after my solo for sure. Quote

We all wanted to have perfect set downs....but it really doesnt matter as much as making perfect auto's might ! If I had to choose which one to practice..it would be the auto ! Goldy Quote

klmmarine Posted June 25, 2007 Author Posted June 25, 2007 Congrats! What school did you end up going to? I am finishing up my ppl flying with AirTenn Aviation in Clarksville, TN then going out to Classic Helicopters in Seattle for my checkride and to continue my training under their 141 program (Comm, Inst, CFI, CFII). My last three flights are tomorrow, (1.5- solo patterns in the morning, 2.5-Solo XC in the afternoon, then 1.5 Dual Night XC tomorrow night. My written is Thursday morning and I leave for Seattle on Saturday. I'll get there on the 10th or 11th and fly 3 hours dual (checkride prep) then do my checkride with their Chief Instructor/DPE. There are now a three R-22 schools in the Nashville TN area, so far none has 141 approval (Though all claim it will happen soon). If anyone is in the area and looking for a place to fly, PM me and I will give my impressions. I have flown with all three now and they all have their ups and downs. Thanks for the support from everyone. I am sure that I will just have more questions and opinions as my training progresses. Quote
