American Hero's Airshow

Couple weeks ago the show was in Los Angeles. Just a few shots I took. I like LAFD Fire 4 flying over the USFS fire spotter Apache. ( Apache, Cobra..whats the difference, they are both cool ) !

Those are LAFD airships doing the red, white and blue water drops...Thats LACF AirSquad 15 doing the single ship water drops. All in all not a bad way to spend a Saturday.

The one bird that couldnt make the show was LASD Air Rescue 5....It has been grounded with some tail boom issues....I was on one of the last rescues that it made so I snapped that last picture of it taking off from a turn out...tail boom issues or not, that is one monster of a ship !!

I believe its a Cobra Goldy, but great pics none the less!

Oh Crap ! You are right...I knew that !

I was watching a show earlier, which highlighted the Apache...talk about the power of suggestion!

OK, rather than edit my post, I will leave it for all to see and harass me.

Thanks Roger.

Shesh! It's like the army! A Cobra, Hueys, Dauphins (I don't think these are military) and a Blackhawk?! And wasn't that monstrous thing, 3rd from the end, a Russian bird?

Nope, no russians ! Its a Sikorsky (Made in USA!) S3, this particular one was a US Navy ship, and had a tailboom that folded in half ( as did the blades) to fit on an aircraft carrier. In Los Angeles, its a pretty common sight to see this bird flying around saving idiots from our rural areas.

Actually we had two Apaches there, three blackhawks ( CG, Customs, LACFire), couple bell 206's, 412's, Enstrom480, McD 520, good showing !!

Ahhh, there's some memories... My first helicopter ride ever was in an SH-3 back in 1974. As part of the Navy's SERE/DWEST training I got to enter the helicopter from the middle of San Diego's bay via the horse collar/hoist combination. Soaking wet and by the time they reeled me in the pilot was already leveling out for what was then NALF Imperial Beach. Quite a ride!
