Info on Chicago's PD new Air Unit

Has anyone heard anything about the new Air Unit that Chicago PD has started?

They started flight operations in January 2006. They started with a Bell L-4 and have since added a Bell 206BIII.

How did you find out? I've asked many people in the department and no one knew. Are you a member of that unit?

No I have never seen or heard them in the air but here them on the radio (City Wide I)

I am a member of the Airborne Law Enforcement Association. I have been trying to get an air support unit going in my area and have been following their work. Their unit supervisor is Commander Holm. I think if you contact the unit directily they could answer any questions you might have.

Anyone have an idea of what the size is of the current CPD / Cook County Helicopter Joint Task Force is now? I know they had two Bells and a handful of aviation officers around the end of 2008.

 

For sworn officers, is there a published ground patrol experience requirement? Minimum aviation ratings for initial application?

I can call and ask if you want. Not that you can't but sometimes a fellow LE pilot can get a little farther with the skinny
