nicepants Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uzo1TGQ1K4I&NR=1 With my limited knowledge of helicopters, the whole "allowing us to fly when other helicopters can't" seemed a bit of a stretch, but maybe I'm wrong. Love the references to "whisper mode" though, it made me laugh. Comments? & What model is this one, anyways? Quote
brushfire21 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Some of the shots reminded me of some takes on Blue Thunder. Quote
FlyNHighNFast Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Some of the shots reminded me of some takes on Blue Thunder. I'm glad I'm not the only that instantly thought of Blue Thunder. Hmmm, I think it's time to pull out the BT DVD and a glass of wine. Quote
klmmarine Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I thought instantly of Airwolf. Whisper Mode? When did EC start putting that in their ships? All that is missing is afterburners, rockets and Machine guns.... "Chopper 4, If we can't find the news... We'll Make it!" Quote
PhotoFlyer Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 All that is missing is afterburners, rockets and Machine guns...."Chopper 4, If we can't find the news... We'll Make it!" Wow, now thats funny! I'll be chuckling about that for at least an hour. Loved the "able to fly when others are grounded" shot. Lets all go fly in a thunderstorm!!! Precision mapping technology.........oh yea, a garmin 430..... Quote
warpig Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 ... choppter 4.. now with airborne capabilities.. Quote
Goldy Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 I'm just guessing its an EC 130B4 Eco Star. Pretty cool ship actually. The fenestron tail is a lot quieter than a typical tail rotor, so the ship is really quiet. I have never heard them call it "whisper mode" but they can fly with a rotor speed slower than normal for noise sensitive areas. If I had a couple million laying around collecting dust I would buy one! But I don't so I think I'll go polish the ol R 22. Blue Thunder- best overall helo movie around. I was working in Downtown LA when they were filming that movie, pretty cool to watch.. Goldy Quote
500pilot Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 It's an EC-135. Chanell 4 had it. Ran it as a 2 pilot operation with all the bells and whistles. Unfortunatelly about 6 months after they got it they had I believe a Fadec problem and ended up putting it in the Hudson. Back to Longrangers now for them. Quote
ChprPlt Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 (edited) I recently was in Hawaii and one of the helo companies uses the "whisperStar" in their marketing. Glad I'm not the only one that hasnt heard of it! Cool helo though! Edited July 28, 2007 by ChprPlt Quote
