james28 Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 no kidding, i didn't look at the hours, only the price. thanks for pointing that out. Quote

Seems more like scholarship than a grant. Quote
pvos Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Does seem more like a scholarship, although a pretty good deal for the lucky 5.thanks for the info! Quote
klas Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Cool benefit, but:1 - you have to work a yr after the program ends in a parish of New Orleans, in any job - and possibly not flying?2 - why give preference to vets when they have access to the GI Bill? Wouldn't you want to give preference to those that don't have additional benefits, like a GI would, or maybe even women, since they are under-represented in the pilot field? Quote

Sounds like a sweet deal to me although I would want to see a lot more details. I can't see them giving you $20k to help in flight training then not giving you a flying job afterwards. Sounds like they expect you to have a loan already secured for the remainder of the money as well. Hopefully they still have something like this going when I retire in a few more years. It says you have to be a resident there and I wouldn't mind moving for an incentive like that. I have the GI bill but it tops out at around $42k. Quote

Not only a resident there, but you had to have graduated from a Louisiana high school I heard. I would give them a call to make sure though and get the details first hand...just cause I heard that from someone doesn't mean it can't be b.s. Of course, if that is the case at least it's a start...first I've heard of any school offering grants for training. Grants are money in your pocket...which doesn't have to be paid back like a loan. Giving prefrence to vets shouldn't be a bad thing. I am a vet working hard in Iraq as a civilian to come up with the money for school. The G.I bill helps but in my case this is something that I found myself wanting to do after the 10yr period of time. So its nice to know that us who served during the Gulf War and before have not been forgotten.I applaud that in Vortex and this is one reason that it is one of my top two school picks to attend. Yep. That's correct. You have to have graduated from a high school there. JPDpilot Quote
