clarity Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Just a quick question. I'm working on my commerical rationg for rotor, but i would also like to get my fixed wing rating in the future also. Could anyone tell me, and maybe anybody else interested what's involved. Problably just a seperate check ride and some hours logged i assume. And what would one have to do to obtain his/her CFI in fixed wing? log X amount of hours? I tried to find all this out at the FAA's site but couldn't get a clear answer. If you start teaching, it will come up often. Spend some time in part 61 and then goover what you come up with your instructor. It'll be good practice. Quote

It'll be good practice. ditto, but I'll add this: Part 61 lays out the general hour requirements as well as the training requirements such as how many hours of X-C, solo, night, long X-C, night X-C, just like for the private or commercial RW certificate. In fact, it's only a couple of pages away from the RW requirements. Sorry I don't have my FAR/AIM handy. I got my ASEL rating after finishing my PPL-H and then went back and got my CPL-H. I don't really have any desire to get the commercial fixed-wing add-on but I can rent a 172 and take the family on a trip much cheaper than doing it in an R-44! All I had to do was find an instructor and do the time. Airplanes are easier to fly, IMHO, but certain maneuvers can still be challenging. You can't just assume that it'll be easy because you're already a pilot. The aircraft handle differently and the way they function in and around airports is different. With that said, I solo'ed the airplane with only 7 hours and took my checkride with only 32. Edited August 26, 2007 by lockedcj7 Quote
