Expensive leather trainers - helicopter pilot? Nah! - must be the student's.

Serious question: What's the instrument to left of ASI? Red thing with LED meters on it and numbers? It's been a long time since I flew CB or CBi. Can't remember that!

EDM engine analyzer... They show the exhaust gas temp and cylinder head temp for each cylinder. Most can also show inlet air temp (for helping detect carb ice, if applicable) and outside air temp. You an also program it to give you a shock cooling alert if your CHTs are dropping too rapidly. Turbo-charged engine displays can also show the TIT. I think there's one that will show fuel flow as well from a totalizer wheel, but most people would rather install a Shadin than use the EDM because it has way more fuel managment functions.

JPI makes a similar gauge, but the EDMs can record about 50 hours of data so you can download it to your computer for trouble shooting and stuff.

Quite amazing!

When I was young, we avoided 'shock cooling' by running at idle for three minutes.

OAT was read from the 'dedicated' OAT gague and fuel flow was calculated by noting the change of fuel quantity over time. Simple mental math normally got that, and if that was not enough a calculator usually sufficed.

Troubleshooting meant looking at the colour of the exhaust and the spark plugs.

To see the TIT you'd try the top shelf at the newsagent's.

How times have changed!

Thanks for the info. Very interesting.

P.S. Hairy and knobbly knee is seen in the reflection!
