Gerhardt Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraf...E5FDF2FA28C64D2 I've been looking for a partner for some time now but there are few helicopter pilots in this area. The price is about right on this for me to buy w/o a partner but I am concerned about maintenance. I'm tempted, but I know how rough I was on the R22 I trained in. Hovering autos, overspeeds, etc. and I would have no reason to believe that other students didn't do the same things. Any thoughts? Quote

How sure are you going to be that the sellers claims are accurate? Quote

Ever wonder how much really happens and really gets reported by the CFI's? they tell the boss man about every thing every hard landing and every overspeed all of it! right? If I did go out an buy it I have to repaint it right away just so that no body else would think that I was a SSH student... 1600 since major overhaul 400 to go .. there are more helicopters out there.. keep looking thats my two bits.. --LHB Quote

Why would SSH be selling an a/c if it is growing as fast as it claims to be? Quote
PhotoFlyer Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 (edited) Why would SSH be selling an a/c if it is growing as fast as it claims to be? Just playing devils advocate here, I don't like SSH any more than you. The helicopter is almost 4 years old, and close to an overhaul. With the numbers of helicopters they buy, it is probably less time consuming to replace them then overhaul them. Especially considering how much maint they must already do. And 4 is old if you advertise that you fly "new" helicopters. Edited September 14, 2007 by PhotoFlyer Quote
Goldy Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 1600 since major overhaul 400 to go .. --LHB LHB- grab a calculator...there are 600 hours left to go, not 400...honest mistake. Gerhardt- I'm sure SSH doesnt like ships over 3 years old...no warranty left. Also be aware that a 4400 hour overhaul costs more than a 2200. I would certainly look at this ship, seems reasonable asking price. I own a Beta II so if you want to PM me with some questions, go for it. Goldy Quote
jtravis1 Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I will chime in here. I bought a 04 Beta II with just over 1000 hrs from Silverstate. When I went out to inspect it, I came away very impressed with their maintenance. The logs were well organized and as I toured their facility, it was a first class maintenance shop. I picked it up in Vegas and flew it back east. I owned it for a year and a half. During that time, I put almost 400 hours on it. The ship continued to perform well and I did not have any issues with it. All prior maintenance was totally by the book and I had great luck with the ship. They kept the ship in balance at 100hr intervals and it was smooth as a top. I recently sold it, and actually made money on the ship and got to fly it. When I sold it, compressions were still 79+ on all cylinders and it was a great flying ship. I will contrast this with the other Beta II I had. It was bought from a private owner. The prior maint was not nearly as thorough and because the ship flew less, I believe the engine was not in as good a shape eventhough it had less hours. Face it.....that is all these ships do every day is fly. That is what they are made to do. Same with their mechanics....that is all they do EVERY day is work on 22's. I have solved my issues and sold both my 22's and bought a 500, I just wish the maintenance was as cheap on it!....But it sure is fun to fly! Quote
Copterpilot213 Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 I've flown that helicopter alot, I always enjoyed flying it and never had a problem. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Quote
captkirkyota Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 My .02 , The one thing I would feel to most comfortable and most certainly do with SSH is buy one of their A/C, They hire top notch mecs, they maintain them top notch, one reason for that is prolly due to the high profile they have and the big eye of scrutiny looking over them, so this should be a purchase made with a sound mind.BTW, since we are on a SSH topic, were it not for the fact that they teach in classroom style instead of personal pace, and for the shady financing practice, I'd prolly have gone to their school, you get all kinds of unlimited's and they include long line training in the cost. I figure that by the time I go to my school and then if I went somewhere to LL train, I'd not be that far from the cost of SSH minus the larger interest you'll accrue with SSH. It's too bad they won't tweak just a couple things with how they operate, it'd be nice to not have the "blackeye" to the heli industry they represent. Quote
Bristol Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Hahah lol. There is no reason for anyone to go to SSH after all that's happened. There's many fine schools around. I wouldn't touch their aircraft either... just mho Quote
