flyboy2233 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I can't find the 07 prepware anywhere, just the 08. But I want to have the test done before the end of the year. Does the FAA completely revise the test every year? Or can I study the 08 software, and take the 07 test and still be ok? Quote
Copterpilot213 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I am under the impression that each year they remove some questions and add some, but usually it is not a huge difference between years that are close to each other. Quote
PhotoFlyer Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 They usually change from one year to the next around July or August of the preceding year. This is normal, get the '08. However, I didn't like the prepware (ASA) software. I prefered the software offered at www.checkride.com. Free updates for life and a great format. Quote
Autorotator Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 The difference is very small. Copterpilot is right, each year there is a slight change. I had the 03' prepware, with an 04' book. All of the question numbers matched up and probably only ran into one question that wasn't in the 04' book. I didn't even bother with buying the instrument or commercial books, as I recieved the Prepware as a gift and used only that. I passed every one of my writtens on the first try. You will have absolutely no problem passing the 07' written studying the 08' book. Also, I have to disagree with PhotoFlyer. Although I did not use the www.checkride.com, I thought the ASA prepware was great. It is exactly like the software they use at the testing facility. This is just a piece of advice that I learned the hard way. If you plan on getting your CFII, when you go into your written test for your instrument, take the CFII test as well. It is the same test, just less questions. I didn't think I wanted to get my CFII and ended up having to study all over for it. I kicked myself for that one. --CM Quote
Tenacious T Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I also like the ASA prepware as it is exactly the same as the actual test and also will give you a breakdown of your score in each area of the test. If I scored poorly in an area I would go back to the test prep book and study that section. I have not used checkride.com's software though. Quote
wannabe heli pilot Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I'll second check ride.com, nice easy download to your computer same features as asa's cd for 30$ you can't go wrong. I've not gotten to the CFI written only private and commercial. Quote

Sparker Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 So is there only one version... I didn't look too hard, but all I see is fixed wing stuff. Is it the same? Maybe I'm too lazy ..ok... I know I'm too lazy... but could someone link to the rotor version if it exists? Quote

kodoz Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 ... I'll third www.checkride.com!I have to be a dissenter here. I loved the groundschool prepware from these guys, but I thought their checkride software was weak, with a lot of repetition and not a particular focus on rotorcraft. I did a few sessions with it but quit at the point that I didn't feel it was helping. Looking back on my checkride, it didn't seem that the software helped much. I was really disappointed, because their groundschool program is an awesome study tool. Quote

I have no experience with their checkride software. Quote
