DragonCooler Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I am really wanting to move into a career of helicopters. I have visited all the local school here in the DFW area, SKY, Longhorn, Summit and all seem extremely great. I have read a lot of the success and horror stories on this site and really really want to move into it. However, the only thing that is hurting me right now is getting the loan from salliemae. 70K is a lot to ask for. I am on my last leg as far as a co-signer goes and if it doesnt fall through then there is no chance in me being able to go forth with this. I certainly dont have 70K in assets. LOL I am just wondering what are other alternatives (besides selling my body ) to get a loan or to get money for this. I know some of you suggested the military to other people on here.....Thats out!!!! SORRY. LOL I understand this is a common problem faced by many, but what do any of yall have to offer??? Quote
cosmo Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 well I’m going through a college central Oregon community college I just started in September and when I finish I will have a degree plus what I feel is a more prepared pilot and I will be able to have good knowledge of the industry plus I will get some government funding I can take this two year degree and go to a four year college like amrie riddle and I do not have to start paying loans back until I graduate or I go below part time status also I will get some general knowledge about things like computers ect. Plus there are scholarships available for people with good grades Wright know I’m just finishing my core requirements for the college taking online courses and a class was I live in New York. I’ll be moving to Oregon in the spring it was really hard to find a college for helicopters that is "reasonable" there are only 8 community colleges in the United States that I could find and they are competitive with private helicopter instructors either equal or a little less Quote
apiaguy Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 ugg. Some suggestions:1. Get a job, save money for flight training.2. Approach family members for a simple loan.3. Find a cheaper school.4. Spread it out over a couple years (the training) Quote
