rotor91 Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 The accident is believed to have happend at 13.00 LMT by Rudskogen i Østfold. Three taken to hospital, one by airambulance. A 42 year old man is believed to have extensive head injuries, but is in a stable condition. None received any life threatening injuries. Aerial photo shoot, I think? Glad everyone survived.....hard to believe after these photo's! R91 Quote

TheLorax Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 good joke but that crash is pretty ridiculous looking. i cant believe you can live through that.. Quote
Goldy Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Was Goldy involved in this one?? (Rudskogen Østfold is in norway, btw.) No, but Goldy was practicing hydraulic failures in an R44 over the weekend....could have been me considering how badly I was landing w/o hydraulics.....should have been better at it..it's those last 2 feet.... Hovergirl Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Good Lord, was that a *fuel truck* they landed on? I am constantly amazed by the outrageous pileups that people walk away from. HVG Quote
Sparker Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Was Goldy involved in this one?? (Rudskogen Østfold is in norway, btw.) HAHAHA!!! That was the first thing I thought of!!! How do you crash into a truck upside-down?!?!?! The tail boom looks like it is surprisingly good shape..... Quote
Chi-town Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 My first guess is that he tried to land too close to the truck, a blade struck the truck and the force of the sudden stoppage flipped the fuselage over into the truck laterally. That's my totally unprofessional guess since I don't know any other reason someone would land (or try to land) so close to a fuel truck... The 44 is really survivable, especially after seeing the video of the guy who flew into the hangar door in St Louis and everyone walked away. Quote
delorean Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Nah, blade didn't hit the truck.......There would have been a LOT more damage to the truck. A new windshield in that truck and it'll be fine! Looks like dynamic rollover to me. I can see that helicopter in a hover taxi or drifting, catching the skid on the pax compartment of the truck, and rolling over about that skid. Blades hit the ground somewhere, but it's too rocky to find a ground scar in those pictures. Quote

Does anybody know if that truck was parked? Could you imagine sitting in that truck when that happened? Edited October 30, 2007 by Sparker Quote
BOATFIXERGUY Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 The local paper in Norway stated the crew was on a "filming" flight. My guess would be that he lost control of the helo in slow and low flight trying to get the shot and crashed. That's how 90% of all photo crashes end up though. And we wonder why the insurance companies have increased the requirements in experience for pilots doing photo flights. Quote
rotor91 Posted October 30, 2007 Author Posted October 30, 2007 It appears from eye witness's, that it began spinning(as it was in an orbit), and fell to the ground. From another photo, seems there were strong winds, so maybe LTE, and just augered it in. I've gotten LTE in a 22 at 400 AGL, but managed to fly out of it....fun 15 seconds of my life! R91 Quote
Skints Posted October 30, 2007 Posted October 30, 2007 Your all wrong about what happened, the pilot had watched top gun the night before and wanted to see if he could do the inverted manoeuvre and stick a finger up like Tom Cruise did in the film to the Mig. Unfortunatly the R44 pilot could not find any Mig's in the area that day so he tried the manoeuvre on the fuel truck. His conclusion is that it don't work. Quote

Goldy Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 (edited) Hey the anti collision strobe is salvageable !! I can see the ad in EBay now- R44, hard landing, skids in perfect shape! Only 200 TT. MUST SEE !! Damn-I should have been an ad writer. Glad everyone has such faith in my 44 abilities ! Seriously, two eyewitnesss report the photographer opened the door to the R44 to film....you can't do that with any significant airspeed. Hence, you are hovering OGE, and with a 20 knot wind blowing in the breeze, it would be best not to try it downwind. Just a thought. Old fashioned detectives solve crimes by asking the guy standing on the corner.."tell me what happened". We just find it easier. Fortunalty I don't have as much time as you have to spend on here checking other peoples spelling and punctuation or making funny comments about what I write. Im sure if you put this much time and effort into flying as you do on here you would be a better pilot for it if you are one of course? In the aviation industry no one works for free and respect is earned not just given to people especially if they have a mannerism like yours to someone who is new to these forums. Apologies to everyone who reads this as I can see a lot of you know Sparker but I don't like his mannerism. I am on here to talk choppers, have a laugh with other people interested in aviation and meet new people in the field. Safe flying Quote

Safe flying This was a very light hearted thread and I thought I could get away with a joke.... I am sorry that I offended you and in all seriousness I have never intended to offend anyone. I understand that when you are reading my words you can not hear the tone of voice as I hear it in my head when I type it. What about my mannerism don't you like? I also am here to "talk chopper and have a laugh" and I was intending to do the latter, I'm sorry if you felt it was at your expense. What do you think I do wrong to new members? I have had several new members come to me with questions in PMs because they liked what I have to say. In the future when you have an issue with me, I would suggest using the PM feature instead of posting angry rants. Again, I am sorry I offended you. Quote
Skints Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 I did find your comment a bit patronising but mainly I had a really bad day which came across in the posting as you can see. There was no need to take it out on you at all, my apologies. Good look with your training in a couple months, you obviously have a passion for choppers to have been on this site for over a year.
