Guest rotorflyr84 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I was browsing through youtube just a few minutes prior to this message, and, remembering back to my early childhood years, I typed in Airwolf. How many others on here used to watch Airwolf? You couldn't pry my eyes off the television when it was on... Quote
Sparker Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I was a year old when it premiered. Think it'll make DVD? Looks cool. Quote
Chi-town Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 It is on DVD and the acting is a whole lot worse than I remember when it was on the networks. The pilot episode is pretty good where Stringfellow lets an actor do the flying because he thinks he can do it himself. That will give any CFI flashbacks. Pretty Cheesy, but sure is better than "Riptide" and their crappy S-58. Quote

Funny, those old 80's shows seemed good at the time, but compared to today's acting and story line they're not. I have the entire airwolf series on VHS still sealed. Bought them before they were out on DVD. Now they gather dust. Quote
TheLorax Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 that was hilarious. is it just that young gun vs. that old fixed-wing geezer the whole series? Quote
Guest rotorflyr84 Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 It's funny because when you're young (in my case), it's the best show ever, but when you look back on them, you think to yourself, "I actually watched this?!?!". Airwolf just brought back some memories. Good old 80's for you. Quote
mechanic Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 There is a cult like following, just like the Trekky folks. Airwolf Home Yes, Airwolf, Mash, 240 Robert, and Magnum PI all fueled my heli desires when I was a youngster. Quote

How many others on here used to watch Airwolf? You couldn't pry my eyes off the television when it was on... Yes I watched that! Couldn't wait until the next week when it was on again! I've tried to watch the re-runs on TV Land and it is amazing how bad the acting was. Didn't notice it then like others have said.. Quote
Tenacious T Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 I always liked Airwolf because of the helicopter but The A-Team and Knight Rider were my all time favorite '80s shows. Quote
zemogman Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 Airwolf was awesome...I don't think I cared for much other than seeing the actual helicopter. It was the coolest!! Along with Magnum PI's heli and of course..."Blue Thunder"... All great memories... Quote
Optigirl Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I couldn't get past the name, To buy a DVD called AirWolf and the helicopter looks like a killer whale didn't click, As for the bad acting, It wasn't bad, it was stupid ! Nothing but nothing will ever touch the 70's and 80's shows like The RoadRunner Show ! beep beep... Quote

BOATFIXERGUY Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I also loved watching the old shows with just how unrealistic the flying was..... How many times did you see a pilot fight for control of the bird with both hands on the cyclic only!? Um...it's not a B-17! Forgot about 240 Robert! What about Firebirds! Quote
sneakin Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Grins....My first remote control helicopter was painted like the Santaini Air ranger. Quote

Pretty Cheesy, but sure is better than "Riptide" and their crappy S-58. Here's the gal now...Summit Helicopters (Whiteman) has her. Ya might want to take back the "Crappy" part. Screamin' Mimi Scroll up 1 level (American Heroes Airshow - 6/24/2006) to view the other albums and take a look at LACo's Coronors BIG van. Yikes. And to think this is what is used for PR...makes me wonder what they have and we don't get to see. Really, the forensic techs were a pretty cool bunch, and, as they explained, the vans are rolled for major casualty incidents (obviously) as well as field investigations that are better to have on-site to help preserve scenes & remains and to gather evidence in conjunction with 'unkown' or 'suspicious' circumstances. So I told 'em that when I'm like 145 years old and can't fly no mo, they can come get me at home when I don't wake up one morning, take me out back, and tuck me in for the long dirt nap. At least that's the plan I'll go with. -WATCH FOR THE WIRES- Quote

Gomer Pylot Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 (edited) I could never watch it, and I can almost never watch any TV show, or movie, that has much aviation. I just can't suspend that much disbelief. They're so bad, and so unrealistic, I just can't keep watching without throwing something through the TV. I have yet to see any TV show portray helicopters realistically. Or anything else, for that matter. Even the 'reality' shows are unrealistic. There are only a few TV shows I can sit down and watch - The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Countdown, and baseball games are close to my limit. Edited November 7, 2007 by Gomer Pylot Quote

xcell Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Airwolf was the ultimate show back then along with night rider Quote

How many others on here used to watch Airwolf? You couldn't pry my eyes off the television when it was on... OMG I love Airwolf. It's not what got me into helicopters, but it was a great show. Looking back on it now, it was pretty unrealistic, but cool as hell. Hey, what ever happened to Jan Michael Vincent? You also gave me a great idea for a DVD to play in our CFI lounge. Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 He became an alcoholic druggie. No idea where he finally ended up. You can't have two ultimate shows. One has to be ultimate, the other penultimate. So which is it? Quote
Sparker Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 One has to be ultimate, the other penultimate. So which is it? You must have a thesaurus. Quote
Dominis Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) Airwolf was my favorite tv show, it got me interested in flying helicopter. It wasn't until lately I finally started to take lessons some 20 years later. Knight rider was my seconded favorite and it got me into racing, done with that part. Now onto beating the AIR! Gomer Pylot Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 There is a thesaurus online, free for anyone to use, but I seldom use it. Reading gives you a good vocabulary if you actually do it. Quote
