Goldy
Ok, I've seen my share of threatening cloud formations. Driving down the road I spot this building cumulus, and before my eyes I see the lenticular cloud start to form right in the center of it. I've seen some great lenticulars before.....like one encircling Mt Shasta one day, but I've never watched as a building cumulus turns into a lenticular !! Cumoticular? Maybe a Lencumu?? OK, cant get the picture to post...I'll try it again tomorrow ! Goldy Edited November 30, 2007 by Goldy

AngelFire_91
You sure it's not a Pileus Cloud? Pileus clouds are lenticular in shape but form as a result of a cumulus' push upword. Ok! Getting all this built up for weather is just not right!! Ok, now I sound like the big weather dork. I can't help it, I love weather! Edited November 30, 2007 by AngelFire_91
Goldy
You sure it's not a Pileus Cloud? Pileus clouds are lenticular in shape but form as a result of a cumulus' push upword. Never heard of this, but could be one ! The cool part was over a span of 5 minutes, I watched as the center of this cloud started whirling around, obviously some high winds in action, and the cloud went from all cumulus to all lenticular looking. This shot caught the transformation somewhere in the middle. You can see the center starting to smooth out. Anyway, can't upload it to VR...so here's a link over to Webshots so you can see it. AngelFire_91
Ok, not a Pileus, looks like a Cumulus that got sheared off by the mountian wave, and formed a Lenticular. If you don't mind Goldy, I'll print it out and take it to some of the other weather research guys I used to work with and see what they have to say. It is weired I do have to say. Kevin mi pix es su pix....I think its just a straight cumulus where a wind formed and started whipping the center...eventually the whole cloud went lenticular...the photo just happened to catch it mid transition. Not that it really matters, but these are the mountains located at 34 31' 27.08N, 119 54' 25.62W.Let me know if you find anything else out...Goldy
