67november Posted February 13, 2008 Author Posted February 13, 2008 some good news on the weather front, I received this email last night. Hi Steve! I'll forward this to Ken. It still looks quiet on Saturday, but a strong front moves through Saturday night. Could be some pretty big wind late Saturday and Sunday. Snow showers are also expected so visibility might become a problem. Dave DahlChief Meteorologist5 Eyewitness News Quote
helo08 Posted February 14, 2008 Posted February 14, 2008 Sorry to dash the hopes of those of you who were looking forward to seeing a 300. I won't be able to fly the 300 in due to maintenance complications. I will be driving up though and plan to attend. So I'll see you then. Once again I'm sorry about the 300 Quote

67november Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 (edited) Good day all,It was great to see and meet everyone the showed up.first off the 3 original birds were not able to make the trip due to maintenance or shedualing conflicts, we had a surprise arrival of an R22 that arrived unannounced scarab (VR member) flew it up from FCM after picking up a friend there. They spent about a hour doing pattern work around the field. Once everyone arrived and was introduced to the group we chatted about our experiences and then made our way to the restaurant for lunch, the restaurant opened early to accommodate us for lunch, it was a great time listening to the storys and jokes.we all agreed that this first meeting was a successful dry run and that a summer time (warmer wx) meeting should be put together. attending members67november1Badz32Helo08 & FatherDan 300CBIDominisironranger, rotorchic & their 2 sonsscarab & friend (pending VR member) I look forward to getting the summer meet put together, and hopefully a larger turn out of helicopters. Once again, it was great to see and meet everyone that made the trip and hope to see you all again on the next meet. Edited February 17, 2008 by 67november Quote
Scarab Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 The day was great, I'd encourage folks in other areas to try this. It's fun to put faces to these vague handles, and hear some of the personal stories. Quote
ironranger Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 It was great getting a chance to meet everyone. Hopefully next time we'll be able to get a stronger presence of helicopters and maybe a few more members. Scarab you saved us on this one (we can still call it a fly-in). Thanks alot 67November for putting this fine event together. Fly safe and be kind ironranger ps. Helo08 you need to give your Dad a helicopter ride. Quote

heyitischris Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 There was some talk a while back (i believe it was in this forum) about Minnesota pilots forming some type of group in the vertical reference forum. I wanted to make sure this is the correct forum. And I would like to introduce myself to some of them. Safe flying! Quote

Copterpilot213 Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 Hi everyone, I might be transferring from AZ up to MN. I was wondering how the weather is up there (in general, like if there's times during the winter that are no-fly) and what it's like to fly in your state! Quote
heyitischris Posted March 26, 2008 Posted March 26, 2008 I will be arriving in Minneapolis on the 14th and will be in Minnesota from the 15th-16th. If you have any recommendations on helicopter operators i should visit in the area please let me know. Thanks Chris Quote

ironranger Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Hi everyone, I might be transferring from AZ up to MN. I was wondering how the weather is up there (in general, like if there's times during the winter that are no-fly) and what it's like to fly in your state! Copterpilot213 If you come to Minnesota you will need to wear your long johns into June or July Just kidding! It is awesome flying in the winter because of the additional performance with the cooler weather. It is also neat to land on the frozen lakes and park next to the snowmobiles at the restaurants and have lunch. You don't have to worry about breaking thru the ice because it is 3 to 4 feet thick. Also kind of fun chasing the snowmobiles across the lakes. They are limited to a 50mph speedlimit so its not hard to catch up to them. Its also fun to look at all the ice houses on the lake. Its a community of little shanties on the lake with people fishin in them and drinkin beer. There aren't too many days that you can't fly if you don't mind a little wind. The robinson heaters do a pretty good job down to -20F if the sun is shining. If you end up in northern Minnesota you don't have to worry much about other air traffic, mostly class Gulf. keep us posted on the move because it would be nice to meet up with you and welcome you to our wonderful state. ironranger Quote
Copterpilot213 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 (edited) Thanks Ironranger, good info there (I've already got my long johns ready just in case! lol) I was worried I might have times where I have to secure a different form of income. I'll definitely be in touch if I get the green light to head up there! P.S. It looks like I'll be at Detroit Lakes if I do go. Edited March 28, 2008 by Copterpilot213 Quote
