After pondering dates, I think the last Saturday of Feb. the 27th seems to be a good date and then we'll use Saturday April 6th as the back up date in case of bad wx on the first date.

The ice is get'in thick. I talked to 67' and he figures we should schedule the VR Minnesota Ice Fishing weekend for the weekend of January 29th thru the 31. It will be at the cabin on Lake Vermilion. All are welcome.....please rsvp on the forum. You can drive or fly. Plenty of parking on the ice or we can make other arrangements. KCQM is the local airport. Hope to see you there.

Well our trip is approaching fast, it looks like we'll have about a dozen people at this years event, with 4 VR members and 3 boys of these members and friends to fill out the group.

 

I'll charge my camera and get some pics, hopefully we'll see a bird or 2 fly-in for a visit

We had an absolutely great weekend, the cub, and super cub in 1bad's pics were just one part of the great times that were had. I'll post the happenings of the event 2moro

Greetings VR members, the 2nd annual ice fishing trip was a roaring success.

5 VR members made the trip, with a total of 10 people to round out the group.

and many thanks to ranger for letting us invade his cabin for the weekend

 

The weather was absolutely perfect, saturday was severe clear, with temps in the mid teens F with zero wind, great for standing on the ice wetting a fishing line.

 

After fishing for a couple of hours on saturday our airborne visitors arrived, 2 instructors with thier 2 students flew thier R22's in from the flight school in Hibbing MN which is about 40 minutes away, behind them were a Piper cub and a super cub, both with tundrae tires.

the cubs gave us quite a nice air show in thier overhead fly bys.

 

After finally getting everyone on the ice we gathered for a meet and greet at the cabin and had lunch.

 

 

the weather on sunday was not as perfect as saturday but the skys were still severe clear with temps in the upper single digits and a NW wind at 3-5 kts

 

one of the instructors flew Ironrangers R22 up from his house so we all could get rides, (thanks much ranger) the other instructor flew up with another student and we again gathered up for lunch in a warm cabin

I want to thank everyone for coming up this year and making it a lot of fun. We'll have to start planning the summer fishing weekend and maybe discuss it at the Bemidji Fly-in. I couldn't resist so I had to attach the picture of Keno with his big fur hat.
