joker Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 (edited) Telephone calls, verbal promises and discussions and pleas for understanding are a waste of time. Remember, a verbal agreement or contract is worth the paper it's written on.Joker 2007 Some tips:The following tips are useful for anyone, not just someone who is expecting some possible legal action.I wish I had this kind of advice when I was starting out on my own - when I left my parents. As you go through life, you WILl find a time when you just wished you'd kept that paper, or need to look back and find an email from 4 years ago...etc... Everywhere you go now, people ask for a copy of this or that document. As soon as possible, start organising your archive system. Do it is such a way that it will last. I have been archiving the same way for 10 years now. 1. Get yourself a cheap scanner to attach to your computer. Scan everything as a PDF or RTF. The computer copy will come in handy when you need to produce evidence or refer to a document. Your filename convention is important. I suggest: YYYY_MM_DD - Who - Description - Physical Location. e.g.2007_12_27 - WKPP - Employment Contract - Grey Folder - A (Having a good quality copy of all your paperwork is useful. I scan everything now. Passport, birth certificate, driving licence etc..etc... It's so useful when you need to produce 'copies' for the authorities.) Then file the original away. File in a way that is organised so you can pull out the original whenever you want. Back up emails, or print them. Do this regularly...When sending an email, use a sensible subject line - one that will allow you to do a search straight away and find it. As soon as the subject matter changes, change the subject line. Don't keep replying back and forth until the subject line bears no reflection on the topic being discussed. Ensure their name and your name is in the subject line too. No need for date though..that is carried in the text. e.g. SSH - Request for Account Balance - JONES Emails are hard to back up, but find a way. Then go buy an 'external hard drive'. For documents, it doesn't have to be all that big. 40GB. This will be your 'filing cabinet'. Store your documents in here. (Note: I personally use a 256GB HD, but I put everything on it. Even though, I still have my 40GB one with just my document archive on.) From now on with SSH keep a log of your telephone calls. Time and date. Don't forget to politely ask for the name of the person you are speaking to. Write down key points. Ask for clarification on any points you think you should write down. Good luck! I still think the U.S. money lending system is shot to peices. Borrowers need to be educated in money management (which includes when to take loans or not), and the money lenders need to be more responsible in when they lend money. Same with UK actually too. Icarus Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Well When I was going to A&P school everyone said the same, oh theres a huge industry shortage blah blah blah you'll make so much money. Well thats a load, most A&P's unless you work for an airline or UPS or FEDEX seem to bring in around 15-24 dollars an hour. Many times much less. My first A&P job paid 11 an hour. Mesa airlines will give you 14 - 15 if you're lucky. FBO's pay around 15-19 per hour, and these are for guys with A&P's with IA's that have been doing this for 10+ years. Sorry about the rambling, its 4:50 AM on christmas, and I'm working! another perc of the aviation bussiness. ok later! L3 Communications contracts to U.S. Customs & Border Protection all over the nation. There are new sites popping up everywhere, and new ones on the way for 2008. The A&P's I work with in San Diego start at $27-28 /hr. Check into L3 Comm or other companies contracting to Federal or military aviation.
fry Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Signia, I would certainly take it to a good lawyer. A "good lawyer"...there's an oxymoron if I ever heard one. How does one even determine if an attorney is "good", i.e., competent in the issue in question. Anyone who has ever had to engage an attorney will probably agree they are not all created equal. You've got your one or two person shops who may have no first hand experience in your problem. They also probably don't have the resources, i.e., time, to devote to your case because in addition to the cases they already have they have to spend some time generating new business. Then there are the multi-attorney firms. If you can even interest them in taking your case on an hourly basis (contingency cases are where the bucks are) their rates are very high. You'll mostly have an associate doing what little work actually gets done...but at a high rate none the less...and in order to get them to put in sufficient effort for you to prevail will be prohibitively expensive. For example, the firm that brought suit against SSH in California on behalf of twenty-something plaintiffs lost and their clients got stuck with SSH's legal fees. How's that for insult to injury?
Signia Posted December 28, 2007 Author Posted December 28, 2007 Well, I cant seem to get SSH financial dept on the phone even though they are there but they don't answer or return calls. I'll try again. Also I have picked up some basic lawyer services that will help with talking to SSH and also help with any bankruptcy if Neccessary. Also I can try to jump onto this Arizona Class Action suit since i live here and prolly went to class with some of the people in it so in that case if the suit was won, I may be able to pay off the debt, and have enough extra to pay for my licenses, or pay off my car, but i know thats hopefull. thats taking into account the lawer takes 33 percent and the rest is divided up evenly. anyway, I hope my situation comes out ok in the end, maybe even positive. I'll keep updating. As a side note, I have an 06 nissan, and their customer service SUCKS!! especially when they try to weezle out of basic warranty work. ok enough for now.Later!
EC120AV8R Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Just a quick side note, since we are beating up on Silver State: Go to their web site and read the bios on the corporate leadership. An awful lot of fluff with not a lot of substance there. You know a guy either hasn't done much or accomplished much when his bio includes the fact that he was trained and certified on the use of the PR24 side handle baton (in the police academy). Ummmm...I went to the academy too, and all I can say, is who wasn't? That and $4.50 will get me a latte at Starbucks. Besides, who gives a toads ass about that kind of stuff. What does it have to do with training pilots?

fry Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Just a quick side note, since we are beating up on Silver State: Go to their web site and read the bios on the corporate leadership. An awful lot of fluff with not a lot of substance there. You're right of course. What SSH has had an inexhaustible supply of from the beginning is self-promotional BS. From the logos and seminars to the media promotions and press releases ,they've always put most of their effort into the appearance of substance. It's all built on a base of sand. The management is a bunch of lightweights led by a fast talking salesman. The company is capitalized with no-cost loans from its customers that it then turns into revenue through the magic of convoluted contract terms. Like the Las Vegas RJ said about the company's founder, "At best he is adept at separating people from their money and at worst he is a schemer". Unfortunately, not enough of the company's potential customers read this forum.
Future206Pilot Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Unfortunately, not enough of the company's potential customers read this forum. People don't do enough research in general... They see the ad on tv for a seminar, show up, listen to and fall for the BS, or take the intro flight, and they have them... You should do research on every major purchase, if not EVERY purchase, whether it be a printer or flight school...
Witch Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Hey all, I don't know who Dave Ramsey is, but I do remember something that this Kudlow(?) guy was saying on one of the satellite channels-CNBC I think. He was saying that you can negotiate with credit card companies and that you have the advantage because if you don't pay, it messes up their monthly reports and therefore hurts them. I forgot how though. Anyhow, it seems that they'll work with you by reducing the intrest, minimum payment, late fees, etc... If they don't go for any of this, then you can actually go to the supervisors and negotiate with them. He said that the credit company will work with you in order to keep that black mark off of their monthly financial reports. Something to look into? On a personal note, I'm very glad I was rejected for the SSH flight acadamy. I guess being hesitant and having a wonderful wife that doesn't lke to fly has its advantages. Signia, having bad credit isn't the end of the world. I have a daughter whos husband embezzled from his company. She lost just about everything through bankrupsy. She has rebounded and is doing fine. Her boyfriend had some trouble with drugs, but is cleaning up well and adding to the household. A few bumps here and there, but overall, progress is good. Take care. Later
Goldy Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 when his bio includes the fact that he was trained and certified on the use of the PR24 side handle baton (in the police academy). OMG, I didnt believe anyone would put that in his bio..thats like saying I was trained where the switch to the red light was. Maybe thats as far as he made it ? I notice he doesnt list having a POST cert...I looked at the site today and he doesnt say that anymore?? Maybe he reads VR ! Goldy
Future206Pilot Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Maybe he reads VR ! Thats kinda scary! But its probable...
KMWK Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 I know this is going to be harsh and I don't expect anyone to be gentle on me, but try! There are some things that need to be said just like they were when the last guy came on here that got screwed by SSH. The honest comments, you all know what I mean. First: Our wonderful Government run schools have been teaching nothing about life skills over the last 20 or 30 years. They are turning out little liberal bed wetters every year now and parents don't get involved in "raising" their children! My 27 and 25 year old children went into the world with a life skills education and they didn't get it from school. I can proudly say they are doing very well and I don't have to call the grammar police when they e-mail me. Good grief, how do you get through school spelling like this? Second: Nothing we say here will change what will happen with this situation. SSH will prevail and the fools that signed these contracts will pay the price. No lawyer worth their weight will be able to fight the contract. My wife "was" a lawyer, key word WAS. She hates them and pretty much thinks none of them are worth your time or money. Most anything they can do you can do with enough research and proper GRAMMAR! Third: Were the people at TLC on drugs when they booked OCC to build a bike for SSH? Furthermore, should Paul Sr. get a good a$$ whippin for not checking into SSH? No actually! Because they are in the business of making money too. They don't care about you any more than they care about all the fans they claim to love. The money is what it's all about for the majority of people in any business these days. Of course they need to make money, but customer service and care? GONE, call Haji in Pakistan and press 1 for english. Good luck with that! My advice, join the Army now and hope you test well enough to get into aviation. Let Uncle Sam take care of you because you damn sure can't take care of yourself! <_>

As far as liberal is concerned if thats directed at me then you'd be wrong. Are you here to add something constructive or to gloat about your superior parenting skills? I know plenty of kids/people with parents that believe their children are doing wonderful and little would they know they're children are doing drugs, going to rehab, having unprotected sex with strangers etc etc. Not sure if your spelling comment is directed at me but I don't really spend a lot of time checking for spelling errors in any posts here. Your post wreaks of self hatred believe it or not. The proudest people i've met that love to shout about how great they are end up being internally broken and they're denial seeps out in the odd off key self righteous tone that you have presented here. Second: Nothing we say here will change what will happen with this situation. SSH will prevail and the fools that signed these contracts will pay the price. Let Uncle Sam take care of you because you damn sure can't take care of yourself! I can take care of myself, but i guess you wouldn't understand what it is to need help since you are the ultimate evolution of a human being. You are so self actualized and perfected you are just one step below a god. Your urine cures cancer, you're children are model citizens. I'm sure by life skills you taught them you were probably just an ass, I'm sure you neglected them to teach them self reliance. Possibly you hit them with the belt for getting a 98% on that test instead of a 100%. And telling me to have uncle sam take care of me makes you sound like a "red diaper doper baby" yourself. In fact i have spoken to a recruiter and because of my high blood pressure 180/etc without medication i cannot be accepted for flight. If you weren't drunk or didn't have a bad day when you made your previous post, I'd have to say you are a whacko for sure with many many deep seeded psycological issues probably from your whacko parents as well. No offense but if you want to make a post where you can give yourself a BJ, by all means please create another thread for it because i asked for help here, not your sickening spectacle of ignorance and apathy.
AngelFire_91 Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 (edited) Sorry, but I have to say something, even though this isn't my fight, and I have nothing constructive to contribute, but: One of the best responses I've ever read on a forum. Well thought out, well put togeher, sounds very educated. Way to go Signia! Edited December 29, 2007 by AngelFire_91

I knew you were military because i grew up with a Vietnam f100 pilot and F-15 instructor in the house, and he had the same know it all self righteous attitude you've presented, and sadly i found him to be a disturbed, head up the ass pathetic human being. I've heard it all before, being in an aviation career currently almost everyone i work with is ex military from the Marines, Navy, Army, Airforce, so I wouldn't try to feel as special as you do, unless you mean "special ed", but seriously you've far from impressed me at all. Infact its ironic you being a 47 year old man telling me to grow up when what you have presented here seems very childish from my point of view. Your post lacks direction other than to promote your own accomplishments and put down others and throw in a bit of doom and gloom for my situation. So I question your motivation for even ranting on me like that at all . I've been attacked plenty through my lifetime and it seems apparent to me that most of the time when someone was going off on me they were actually going off on themselves and acusing me of things they had done in the past asuming I was the same, so if you are really bothered by the belief that i should grow up perhaps you should look inward first because someone thats as mature and grown up as you claim to be would have not even bothered to write such an off key rant such as you.

KMWK Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 Signia, Look, I can't say that I'm not sorry that you are in this situation, but you lost me after the first post. Going on about how much they are going to screw up your life and laying out your personal finances to total strangers? That, I just don't get! There are solutions and you will find help on this forum. Maybe, just maybe what I said will make you so mad that you will fight to prove me wrong. I hope you do fight, but do it with the advice that you're getting from the folks here. Get mad, find the right course and go get back what you have lost. Now Rey can kick me out of here if he wants to. I'll get back to the bowl games and semi retirement. Good Luck!

Good Luck! sure its questionable perhaps i do give too much info but its the internet so someone knowing that an aircraft mechanic is at 43K a year isn't going to hurt me any, and i wouldn't really call my post going on about this or that, i was illustrating my situation. And i'm not looking for sympathy from you or anyone else as it is useless in paying bills. Maybe the 93K debt hanging over my head will motivate me just a bit more than some comments you made, I really couldn't care to prove anything to you at all. I'd suggest to watch your sports, stay away from the sauce, don't hit your wife, don't kick your dog, and seek help if you really are filled with so much turmoil you must vent on random people.
klmmarine Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 One of the great things that I have found about this forum is that for the most part, people could post questions and ask for assistance without fear of someone personally attacking them. KMWK- Your first post came across as judgmental and hostile. You don't know this guy and he came here for help not criticism. Your last post was great, "kind" of apologizing for the personal attack but standing by your views. Signia- Your responses to KMWKs posts have been entirely inappropriate. You don't know him either and have no place from which you can stand and judge him. The best thing you could have done, would have been to ignore his post and just respond to the people who have helped you. This forum is usually quite civil and the members responsible and thoughtful about their posts, and responses. Lets keep it that way.
