Thanks I know Fox in Tampa Florida uses a Bell 206 and has a R22 they contract for radio traffic reports. That was about 2 years ago so they may have upgraded to the R44? Hellaheli
Does anybody have any idea if it would be easier to get in on one of the R44 jobs with less than 1000hrs than it would to land a turbine job? I've got 800 now and am looking to get into ENG. I've got a few hours in the 44 too. I am about to start distributing my resume and making calls etc. so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
troops23
There are several canadian TV and radio stations operating the latest R44 Newscopter based on the Raven II airframe. Quite right, I know for sure there is a 44 in both Calgary & Edmonton, Alberta and there are 2 44's in Toronto, Ontario. I think there is one in Vancouver, BC as well. The tv stations that get the feed are Global affiliates, and the radio stations vary, but are all part of the Corus Group.
klmmarine
I fly a Raven II for Channel 4 News in Nashville, TN. It isn't ENG equipped, so everything is handheld, but we do have live capability.
troops23
Does anybody have any idea if it would be easier to get in on one of the R44 jobs with less than 1000hrs than it would to land a turbine job? I've got 800 now and am looking to get into ENG. I've got a few hours in the 44 too. I am about to start distributing my resume and making calls etc. so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks I got real lucky. I got hired on to fly the 44 camera ship in Toronto with just over 200 hours. The operator I work for feels that what we do is not a difficult job, and doesn't require a high time pilot. Too be quite honest, after 6 months on the job, I have to agree. I've flown 300 hours in those 6 months, in the highest density airspace in Canada. And with the exception of the odd weekend warrior over-flying me by +/-2oo feet, it's been a walk in the park. Granted all I have to do is fly the helicopter, I have a reporter in the back who operates the camera.
