Parker Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Hello all! i am new to this site, i am currently deployed to the middle east with the USAF as a MOC Weapons Controller. My enlistment will be up in the summer of 09, and i am strongly considering a career as a heli pilot. I am stationed at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma (City) and my parents live in Lewisville Texas (just a few miles north of Dallas) i wanted to know if there are any good flight schools in that area. I had looked into Silver State about 6 months ago but was taken a little by surprise when they had told me that they did not take any of the GI Bill, also they kept pushing me to apply for the financial aid, i just didnt feel comfortable with them. Also, do any flight schools accept the GI Bill. Basically what it boils down to is me staying in the Air Force, or getting out and pursuing my goals to become a pilot. Please someone give me some insight!!!!! Thanks! SSgt Justin Parker Quote
Helibear Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Hi Justin, yes, there are flight schools that take the GI Bill, just ask around. The issue is that you can't take that money for your private license. They will pay 60 % of the commercial and CFII training. That means you need to fund roundabout $ 15,000 for your private(to be conservative) and about another $ 25,000 for commercial and CFII (again this is a conservative guess) You definitely need a school which offers 141 programs. The GI Bill is only paying for 141 programs, not for 61 programs. Have a nice day Helibear Quote
bellpilot Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 Hi Justin, The best way to go is to a community college that is affiliated with a part 141 flight school. The GI bill will pay a small monthly amount towards your private pilot course though the college program. Then you drop the college program once you receive your private rating. When you start your advanced ratings the GI bill will pay up to 60% of all your flight training.www.flybend.com bellpilot Quote
