PJFan Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Hello Everyone, I've been lurking around the Vertical Reference forums for about two years now. I finally decided it's time to introduce myself and become a part of the community. I'm 30 years old and quit my corporate job last June to pursue helicopters. I've learned a lot reading this forum. The people here provided the information I needed to finally take the plunge and know that I was going in with my eyes wide open. Thanks to everyone for providing such a great resource. I'm blogging my flight training experience and encourage anyone who is interested to follow along. I just hit 10 hours including my demo flight. I'm writing about each lesson and including the total cost of my training at the beginning of each post. I hope some other newbies find it useful. You'll find a link to the blog in my signature. Thanks for reading. PJFan Quote

sluggo Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Thanks for the blog!! I'll keep an eye on it. We have some things in common. I'm 35, and last May I decided I'm done with office jobs. I currently live in Philly and I plan on going to school at Glacier Aviation in WA starting in July. I'm flying out there to check the school out in late Feb - early March. I can't wait to finally get started!!!! GOOD LUCK and keep us posted!! Quote

If you fly right seat...no hand switching required. Just reach over and do it.Just keep your leg up against the collective to keep it from popping up if you hit a gust of wind.john Quote
heligirl03 Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 PJFan.. Hey! I think you're at Inland Heli in Spokane? I'm at Heli NW at Boeing Field. Not sure if Rich is co-owner at Inland? But I see your ships on our ramp from time to time, I assume for maintenance. Come on in and say hi if you ever make it over this way! Those darn Cascades can be a PAIN! BTW, it is possible. I'm 30, left corporate life (well, 3yrs prior), found helis in AK actually. But I got my PPL last year and am currently working on Instr and Comm ratings so keep the faith! ~emily (HG03) Quote
PJFan Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 Thanks for the great encouragement everyone!! Sorry for the late reply, but we got dumped on. There are almost two feet of snow at my house The power's been out for the last four days, so I haven't had much time to check the boards. Sluggo- congratulations on taking the plunge. Walking away from the money and corporate lifestyle is the hardest part. It took me awhile to do it. Now I'm happier than I've been in a long time. heligirl- Yep, you guessed it, I'm at Inland in Spokane. Rich isn't an owner at Inland as far as I know, just leases us our machines. I've heard good things about Rich and his operations over there. I almost had a chance to fly over with my instructor and see the facilities a couple of weeks ago, but the trip was canceled due to weather. You're right, the pass can be a real PAIN. When I finally do get a chance to fly over, I'll definitely stop in. BTW, I also found helicopters in Alaska. I spent two summers watching the ERA guys taking off outside my office window when I was working in Denali National Park. PJFan Quote
