icqa Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 I was given a piece of paper and told I'd have to wait for a new card within 120 days since I just passed my Commercial Checkride. It's taken longer than I had anticipated what with the weather and some scheduling issues but last Saturday was the big day. The oral lasted about 3-4 hours which was fine since the weather was IFR during that time. It cleared up by the time we were ready to fly and couldn't have been better. The flight lasted 1.5 hrs. My biggest worry was my autos, I had been practicing those and either my straight-ins were good or my 180s, never could get them good on the same day. While not by any means perfect on the checkride they were passing. Now onto CFI training. Quote
ben_davenport Posted January 28, 2008 Posted January 28, 2008 Congratulations! It's always nice getting that new temporary sheet of paper. Quote
Goldy Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 The oral lasted about 3-4 hours which was fine since the weather was IFR during that time. Way cool ! But 3-4 hour oral ?? Hello ? I wonder what the norm is out there ? I would guess more like 1.5 hours....maybe he just liked talking to you. Goldy Quote
PhotoFlyer Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 1.5 hours of flight seems a little long, but a 3-4 hour oral isn't unusual for a commercial certificate. 1.5 to 2 hours seems about normal for private, 2-3 for instrument, around 6-8 for CFI, and 3-4 for CFII. Quote
Falko Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Way cool ! But 3-4 hour oral ?? Hello ? Goldy There is an Examiner in Oregon who does 5-6 hrs oral for a private & comercial pilot....... but once you passed... you have earned it ; ) Quote
TheLorax Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 in houston a friend of mine and i had our oral at the same time. it lasted 5 hours. =[ Quote
Helix Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Congrats icqa, I just got mine voided on the 25th also, feels good eh? Quote
icqa Posted January 29, 2008 Author Posted January 29, 2008 It was probably closer to 3 hours and not continuous as the examiner is also the chief instructor of my school so there were a few times that he had to attend to school business. The flight sure didn't feel like 1.5hr but I guess time flies when you're having fun flying. Congratulations Helix. Quote
tattooed Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 There is an Examiner in Oregon who does 5-6 hrs oral for a private & comercial pilot....... but once you passed... you have earned it ; ) What is his name? Just curious (Oregonian who's gonna do a PVT Checkride by spring). Quote
