rotorgirl
Hi all, I was hoping for some comments about the new flight school based out of Torrance, CA. Tri-Star Helicopters. I called them after a refferal from another friend of mine told me about them. I heard they were a school that took over PCH Helicopers. When I called The girl said that they have no affiliation with PCH, new owners and new policys ect. They seem capable and small but that is what I am looking for in a flight school. I want to get away from the big business flight schools, so any comments would be great! Safe skies, rotorgirl
DEMO
I don’t know about them, however, I trained at a small school with only two CFIs and two 300’s. I personally felt more like one of the “team” then a student. Just my experience, but I preferred the close nit feeling of a smaller school. I don't want to get lost in the shuffle of a big school. I only want to get a PPL and have the ability to fly when I want. I do nopt want to be an instructor but who knows what the future may hold. Thank you DEMO for the reply

If you fly at a school with only 1 maybe 2 ships you will always be chasing the schedule to find a slot to fly. I like a smaller school as well, but I wouldnt make that decision based on going to one school, one time. Check out a few others first. Goldy I only remember a few instances where the schedule was an issue, more weather issues than schedule. I do agree with you about checking a few other schools, my experience may have been the exception, not the rule.

Goldy I received my ratings at a school with only two ships, and I never had a problem with scheduling. There was always a helicopter available when I wanted to fly. Don’t discount a school because of the number of helicopters or CFI’s. My 2 cents. RW
slick1537
One important thing to consider when choosing a school is their history. Flight schools are risky business, more than one school has disappeared overnight with students money. There is a chance you may loose money if the school falls through. One the subject of small vs large school, I go to a smaller school, they have 4 r22s and a 300. I really enjoy the smaller atmosphere and the fact that most the instructors give me a hello by name when I see them. Again though some smaller schools have scheduling problems because of the number of ships vs students.
