palmfish
Hey all! Going to start in on my commercial in a couple weeks. Tell me a bit about Helistream! Thanks! Jessica Helistream is an outstanding school with an excellent reputation in the industry. I have been there twice myself for various in-service training (day/night touchdown autos, mountain flying), but my agency has used them for years and other pilots I work with have nothing but good things to say. I'll be returning next month for my annual touchdown autorotation training and as always, I'm looking forward to the trip (I grew up in Torrance/Redondo Beach so I always take a few extra days to visit). In my opinion, you can't go wrong training with them. Edited January 30, 2008 by palmfish
fulldownauto
Yeah, it's just too bad they don't operate a Schweizer 300 as well at the Robinsons. . . Nice AStars though!
EAGLE1
So many good things to say I am not sure where to begin. Maybe a client list will speak for itself. Costa Mesa & Newport Beach PD's send all their pilots there for private through instrument. Huntington Beach PD, Anaheim PD, US Customs, FBI...... Most of these agencies do all their recurrent training there as well. Full touchdown auto's day and night, mountain courses etc. Very knowledgeable extremely talented and experienced pilots. You won't find better training anywhere.
palmfish
Yeah, it's just too bad they don't operate a Schweizer 300 as well at the Robinsons. . . Nice AStars though! I don't know if I'd call their A-Stars "nice." They are old and used hard, but they're well maintained. My only gripe (and it's not a problem with Helistream) is that they don't have an A-Star that weighs 4900+ lbs. Practicing EP's in Helistream's feather-light A-Star is a little different compared to doing it in ours weighed down with NightSun, Gyrocam, floats, tail-boom ballast, etc. Oh well, getting to do touchdown autos in someone else's helicopter is always a good thing. EC120AV8R
I have to agree with Eagle 1 (mostly because he's my boss) and Palmfish. I can't say enough good things about Helistream.
waterway4
I'm working on my PPL at Helistream and I'm most likely their slowest and oldest student. You won't find an organization anywhere with people who are more competent and thorough. They're patient too. That may not be important for most, but it is for me! K-38
Helistream is a very professional operation. I did all of my training with them. I recommend you stop in, and take a tour of the facility. Meet some of the personnel, and talk with the students to check it out for yourself. I have only positive things to say about Helistream. They also provide in-house maintenance which is a plus in my book. A fleet of 4 A-Stars, 1 MD 500D, 5 R-22's, 3 R-44's. Class charlie airspace, and you get the opportunity to take off and land on a rooftop everyday which to my knowledge is unique for flight schools. JDHelicopterPilot
My friend works there. I didn't train there but have visited several times and know the owner/DPE. You couldn't go wrong with Helistream. It is one of the most professional schools in the industry. It is also quite diverse. As another said they do a lot of initial and recurrent training for several Government agencies. They also do Part 135 flights and of course flight training for civilian students. You'll get to see a little of everything there.
EAGLE1
EC120AV8R, I really appreciate all of your support. However, flattery still won’t get you off graveyard shift or get you weekends and holidays off….. end of hijacked thread…..
