Yes, Yes,, I know it looks like an ice cream cone but it's flight is smooth, stable and you can buy one for a reasonable price. Used you can find them for $60,000.00 to 80,000.00, even new they are about $150,000.00 to 160. www.sunhelo.com in Florida just started up a school. (disclaimer: I am not associated with them) Worth looking into if you want a personal helicopter for building time. Hillers are fine to learn in so is Bell 47's. It takes a while to fine a prospect and even longer to close on an aircraft. You may want to use an aircraft broker, it may save you both time and money. rick1128 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 The US Army used Hillers for many years as utility and training helicopters. Very tough birds. They are still being used for light utility work. And some have been converted to turbines with the Soloy convention. I have been told by some pilots who have flown the Hiller, that the controls are slower than other helicopters as the pilot is actually moving the stabilizer paddles rather than the blades. Have never flown one, so I can not say for sure. Quote

I'm just waiting on e-mails from them with time sheets and pictures. Does anyone know the average operating cost of one? From what I've read, they are pretty cheap to operate... Quote
hiller12b Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 a word about hillers they are a very forgiven machine the arny used them for training and still have some on file , i have had mine for 10 years now and no real problems. the maintaince is not to bad a yearly inspection cane go from 650.00 to 1700.00 and there is no time life on the wood blades they are the same as the bell 47. the motor is a franklin 210 hp or 235 hp it has power and it is a real three place helicopter they have a wide landing gear the army would drop them 15 feet and then fly .WE HAVE FOUR OF THE HILLERS 12 B=C MODLES AROUND BOSTON MASS and one in vermount for training they burn about 12 gallons per hour and fly about 65 knots so it is not to fast but it is good to fly over house and be able to tell whats for supper al m. also try flyhiller.org Quote
