AdminLB Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 After a year of development we are getting closer to completing our career development seminar for the newer pilots in the industry. The target audience will be the people who are presently in a career pilot flight training program as well as CFI's which are currently teaching and are preparing to leave the flight training bubble for the real world of helicopters. I am looking for 4 locations which are centrally located to populations of schools, students, and CFI's. Presently I am looking at the following 3 states: Florida - Not sure - maybe Melbourne (Bristow) or Fort Pierce (between Bristow and the south FL schools. California - Where would be best? - no clue Texas - Where would be best? Any other ideas would be helpful? Thanks in advance. Quote
DEMO Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 As for Florida, I would like to vote for Orlando. It is centrally located and has plenty of facilities to hold a seminar. If you need any help putting a location together I would be more than happy to help. Quote
kodoz Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Somewhere in the Northwest. I'm at the safety course now, and seemed that the majority of the pilots were West of Denver. I'd like Boise, but closer to the Pacific prob'ly works better for everybody else. Quote
K-38 Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I am looking for 4 locations which are centrally located to populations of schools, students, and CFI's. California - Where would be best? - no clue/quote]Im out of KSNA in Orange County but the largest number of students, and C.F.I.'s are in the L.A. area. A good choice for CA would be KLGB. Long Beach Airport has 3 helicopter training schools on the field, and a number of others in close proximity. Most of the heli students, and C.F.I.s in the L.A. Basin will have been there before on training flights. Air Flight is an F.B.O. on the field with very nice facilities you might be able to coordinate with them for space. Robinson Heli at TOA would be another option if KLGB does not work out. Best of luck with the career seminars. I will be there to learn, and network when the time comes. Quote
NorCalHeliKid Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Ill cast my vote for CA, Central Valley/ San Joaquin... makes is a short drive from north or south. Quote
mechanic Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Lufkin or Nacogdoches Texas would be a central location, both have civic centers, a state college and a Jr. College, and airports. They are about 18 miles apart. You have schools in Dallas, Tyler, Waco, Houston, Austin, and San A. Texas would be 1 to 4 hours drive each. Then you have Monroe, New Iberia, and New Orleans area about 3 to 5.5 hrs drive out each. If you have it open to fixed wingers you may get a few from Lufkin, Conroe, Dallas, and Houston etc.. Just a thought. Quote
BOATFIXERGUY Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 California is such a large state. I'd agree and say something in the middle. There are plenty of pilots in the north, coast, central and south. Quote
montu Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I also would put a vote in for Orlando area. Quote
rcklimr Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I'm currently training in Fresno, ca. so I naturally think that it would be a good area. Not only because I'm already here but, because it is a decent drive for someone from the north or south and is centrally located. There are a couple of flight schools here as well. Also Sacrametno might be good to get people from washington/oregon and would be a cheaper flight if that was how people were traveling. Quote
ParagonAZ Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Lyn: Ever thought of holding a live seminar online? I know it's not quite the same as 'being there' but it might be a great way to reach out to pilots outside the major metro areas. What do you guys think? btw..sorry I didn't get a chance to call today...will try you tomorrow... -paragonAZ-(jimMc) Quote
Autorotator Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Lyn: Ever thought of holding a live seminar online? That's a great idea. I would like to attend your seminar, but am way too far from any of the locations mentioned. N.W. OK. Quote

Lyn, I think this is a great idea... California - Where would be best? - no clue LA area, ton of schools. Long Beach airport has 5 schools, might do it there at LA helicopters. Texas - Where would be best? I'd like to offer my office and hanger space for this. There are 4 helicopter schools in Dallas (Sky, Longhorn, Epic, and Summit), all good schools with good training programs and management. Any other ideas would be helpful? It would be good to have a few professional pilots come and speak, I'd be happy to set this up. I think something else that should be touched on is resume quality and interviewing skills. Quote
aclark79 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Oregon. There of course is Hillsboro Aviation, but there are a number of schools now from Seattle to Bend that all have students in various stages of training. Portland is a fairly easy drive down the I-5 corridor for anyone from Bend, Salem, Hillsboro, Tacoma, Olympia, Seattle and points north. Quote
