TscottN Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Had a blast. Got to visit with some old friends, made a few new ones, and loved the course and curriculum. I actually thought it made me and will make me a better pilot. The flight on Wednesday was awesome in the 44. The IP showed me a few cool tricks of the trade. The factory tour was amazing. Frank Robinson is a genius... Like him or not. The guy knows his stuff and is a true pioneer. Talking with him was a memorable experience. Even though I am not a Robinson pilot I got to say, I was impressed with the school. I think every pilot should go through this even if they don’t fly a Robinson aircraft. There is much to learn and you can never be too safe. The guy to girl ratio was about 15 to 1. If that matters at all... Quote
TomPPL Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 That's so cool, I'd love to go to one of them - the 44 is a nice machine (22 also). Nice to see you had such a great time. Quote
ironranger Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 I have to agree, I was there the week of the 10th and it was a very good program. Met a couple new people from around the country and had a lot of fun. The guy to girl ratio was 10 to 1 in our class. Didn't matter much since I'm happily married and my wife will probably read this post. It gave me a better appreciation of the product. ironranger Quote
BOATFIXERGUY Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Glad to hear you had a good time TscottN! Hey ranger...how's the new 22? Quote
ironranger Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Glad to hear you had a good time TscottN! Hey ranger...how's the new 22? Its Great!!! Can finally look outside and say Gee I want to go flying and then go flying.. instead of having to check the schedule to see if one is available to rent. I'm keeping it at home so its very convenient. ironranger Quote
cruise475 Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 I just got back from the course also, I enjoyed it. It was well put together. Quote
relyon Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 The factory tour was amazing. Frank Robinson is a genius... Like him or not. The guy knows his stuff and is a true pioneer.I agree the Robinson Factory Safety Course is good and Frank Robinson is pretty smart but I don't consider him a genius. The course is very Robinson-centric as one might expect and I definitely sensed a right way to do things, a wrong way to do things, and Frank's way - the only way - to do things. That approach often doesn't produce the best results. I prefer being critically examined about things and justify my approach, something I didn't get a sense of him doing. Perhaps I'm wrong. As far as being a true pioneer, I don't think Frank even comes close. Read http://www.vtol.org/History.htm if you're looking for true vertical flight pioneers. Robinson is mentioned in a single paragraph toward the very end after numerous people and companies. Bob Quote

Today is the expiration date of the SFAR. Quote
gft Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 Frank not a genius???? How could anyone that has toured the Robinson Factory or sat across from Frank during thesafety course lunch come away not feeling that they had been in the presence of a true genius? If it were not for Mr. Robinson's genius, I and many other pilots like myself would not be able to afford to own and/or operate a helicopter for personal use. Quote
arlnepilot Posted April 6, 2008 Posted April 6, 2008 I attended a few years ago, really wasn't that impressed. They build a great product, I will give them that. Quote
