Mulch
As a large guy I know there is obviously some limitations with certain ships. I am actively losing weight and will continue to do so. My question is, will weight play into account when trying to get a job in the industry ? i.e. Two identical resumes/hours, one pilot is 50-75 lbs lighter than the other. Just trying to gauge how this might affect me in the future. Any other observations of this or related issues are welcome. Thanks.
HeloPitts
Unfortunately have to say it will affect you depending upon where you go, Simple fact of the lighter you weigh the more you can carry. I had to lose some wight for a job that I had. It sounds like you are just starting out so you should'nt have a problem with shedding the weight. Just get your weight proportionate with your height and body structure. Im 6'3" and 205 works good for me. Good Luck
Copterpilot213
My stepsister is a nurse at a local hospital and she said all of their EMS pilots that were over 200 pounds (I think) were grounded until they lost weight because they weren't able to pick up some of the patients. Gomer Pylot
Too heavy and you simply won't get hired. Some companies also pay more for lighter pilots (or less for heavy pilots, depending on your perspective). Nothing is written in stone, but weight is, and will always be, an important factor. Any EMS company that wants CAMTS accreditation has to have all pilots under ~220 ready to fly, and that includes everything. Every pound of pilot weight is a pound of lost payload or fuel. The lost fuel is probably the most important factor. Ideally, get to 180 or less. That's not so say that there are no pilots over 200, but it becomes increasingly harder to get hired as you get heavier.
