PhotoFlyer Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Really, when you think about it, it isn't that impressive. From that distance the radar beam would be quite narrow and the computer would have trouble locking onto any small target that was randomly changing direction. I'm no expert by any means, but it just isn't that impressive to me. Do it in a Ford Expedition, or a Chevy Suburban and I will be impressed. Quote

"Corners like a housefly" - I love it!!! Quote
1badz32 Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Top gear does rock!! Who else would have thought to try somthing that cool? Quote
lwalling Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 While the logic behind most of Top Gears exploits remains to be seen, it is some of the best television you can find . Would the US Military spend the time to chase a Lotus around a race track for airing on TV? Probably not. Those guys are absolutely hilarious. I love the show- Quote
FlyNHighNFast Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 Luke: I have all the seasons on DVD. If you get BBC America, you can catch the show every night. Quote
brushfire21 Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 TWO big thumbs up from me. Its better than watching the comedy channel when I need a good heart felt laugh. I have followed T-G for several years now and Ihave it TiVo'ed so I don't miss "new" epidosodes. Where they come up with some of the stuff, it just bewilders me. Lets see here, Racing to London's Internation Airport (Heathrow?) by bike, car or boat; who can farm a field and plant corn the fastest; making cars into boats; testing a Toyota Hilux by detroying it; running acrossed S. Africa in some beater cars; making a convertible van; going camping and catching the trailer on fire etc. What will they think of next...... Quote
beckwith Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 Have you seen the RV racing and car football, by football of course they mean the game played by hitting a ball with the foot some times referred to as soccer. Quote

lwalling Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 You guys missed one of the best episodes to. When the guys decide to .... turn a small european car.. into a spacecraft http://youtube.com/results?search_query=to...=top+gear+space Good stuff. Damn hilarious. Don't forget the conversions of ordinary cars into boats as well, http://youtube.com/results?search_query=to...q=top+gear+boat They did it twice - in the second challenge a Toyota truck crosses the channel and arrives on a beach in France Hilarious. I can't get over how good that show is. TWO big thumbs up from me. Its better than watching the comedy channel when I need a good heart felt laugh. rjl2001 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I've always loved top gear, its an awesome show. I don't get BBC America though so I'm usually stuck trying to download them online. They also have an episode where they race a Bugatti vs. a Eurofighter I think it is. But is it just me or does anyone else notice a little bit of anti-american attitude in some of their shows? Perfect example, "being British and not American, they don't shoot their allies." Maybe it's just me but that really isn't funny. Quote

There is a definite Bias there. As to the example you mentioned I believe the episode in question may have been filmed soon after the US Army shot down an RAF Tornado over Iraq, or it might have been after that USAF F-15 strafed those Canadians. I'm not saying the joke wasn't in bad taste I'm just trying to give you some context. Quote

Clarkson takes shots like that at most car producing nations. He has made just as offensive comments about the French, Russians, Germans, Italians, etc. And since our country's foreign policy has put a serious dent in our reputation abroad over the last few years we are going to take a lot of flack in the foreign media. Darren Hughes Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 (edited) Unlike the US, in most of rest of the free world humour doesn't have to be politically correct to be accepted. Take for example the UK, who likes to poke fun at not only other nations but also themselves(especially the Welsh). The Irish like to poke fun at pretty much everything that moves especially ourselves. So I guess it's just a different folks, different strokes kinda situation. I love Top Gear but they do have a very strong bias toward all things Great Britain. You should hear them compare UK Fords against Volkswagens or Audis, its ridicules. And what SPW1177 said about US foreign policy is also true. Keep in mind that this show is filmed with a British audience in mind and not a US audience. Edited June 9, 2008 by Darren Hughes Quote
