I'm just curious if the USFS awarded any type 1 fire contracts and who got them? I'm suppose to fly this summer but my company still doesn't know anything yet if in fact they have gotten any. (Contracts) Any start dates? Thanks

Budman,

I've heard (from a type II exclusive use crew) that a bunch of contracts have not been awarded yet. You might try going to the NIFC website, select fire information and there is a contract link. I just took a quick look but you might be able to find out some information there if you root around. What kind of ship are you flying?

Budman,

There is a link to Frank Gomez (USFS Contracting Officer) in the NIFC website. Just follow the directions that I posted earlier.

Skycranes are awesome aircraft. If you end up in the McCall Idaho area swing by the Life Flight quarters.

Budman,

I do now. I flew natural resourse / utility last summer in type III (206L3) and type II (UH-1H and 205A1++) (mostly II). I ended up landing an EMS job quite by chance last fall and now work in McCall. Love the schedule. Don't fly nearly as much as last year but it is a very rewarding job. We've had some crazy weather this year. We received three inches of snow last night (June 11th). After a super long winter (there are still snow piles at the airport), it was in interesting if not appreciated display by mother nature.
