Cant comment on the ladies portion, but my best advise would be to set aside 10 hours and get dive into the rabbit hole that is the forums. Especially the flight school reviews, there is a lot of good advice from older pilots to newer ones in that section.

...And try to filter out the haters. They live on forums, while the successful people generally post less (you know... because they're actually working)
