Enjoy. http://www.cbs8.com/stories/story.146612.html Brutal Crutch Beating Caught On Tape Watch Video Last Updated:11-18-08 at 5:31PM A man is facing attempted murder charges today after getting caught in the middle of a bizarre street fight. The San Diego Police Department's ABLE helicopter caught the whole thing on tape. From the air, officers could see one man beating another with a crutch in the middle of the street. It happened just after 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14. The San Diego Police Department's eye in the sky is recording a brutal street fight. The battle brewing near an overpass gets even more violent when 57-year-old Clinton Alan Tripp picks up an object dropped by one of the fighters and starts hitting two men with it. Ground units race to the crime scene as the airborne law enforcement unit, better known as ABLE, continues to capture the carnage. Several squad cars finally arrive and get a warning about the volatile situation from their colleagues above. It turns out the suspect, who is being held on an assault with a deadly weapon charge, had taken a crutch from one of the other men and used it to beat the victims into a bloody heap. The victims were taken to the hospital. The suspect, who is being held on $10,000 bail, was not hurt. The San Diego Police Department's ABLE units have been around for more than two decades helping to bring suspects to justice and to protect officers on the ground. Quote
thrilsekr Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Cool footage. The woman at the end is a genius. I have always wondered what the people are thinking as a heli circles overhead. Have they never heard of police helicopters before? Quote
Flying Bull Posted November 20, 2008 Report Posted November 20, 2008 Hi skilsekr, normaly they call the police to complain about the disturbing noise...... Still, ABLE was circeling - didn´t it had enough power for hover outside ground effect?Doesn´t make things easier for the FLIR-Operator.Luckily we operate twins with enough power to keep stationary :-) Greetings Flying Bull Quote
airdoggy Posted November 20, 2008 Author Report Posted November 20, 2008 Still, ABLE was circeling - didn´t it had enough power for hover outside ground effect?Doesn´t make things easier for the FLIR-Operator.Luckily we operate twins with enough power to keep stationary :-) They have plenty of power(eurocopter AstarB3) to hover OGE, but common practice, for safety, is to go into orbit just as they did. This provided them a better profile in case their engine failed and also provided them with a better profile to avoid hostile gun fire. He did park it momentarily, but initiated back into the orbit soon after. I thought the FLIR operator did an excellent job and also thought they worked well as a crew. Quote
