montu Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 What is the best King video for Instrument? I see a whole bundle they have but its like 580 bucks. I don't want to pay that much. thanks Jordan Quote
rotormandan Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I wouldn't get the whole package. While some stuff you get is nice, a lot of it you don't need. I recommend just getting the Instrument Rating Knowledge Course. Get your books from your school so you'll have what your instructor teaches out of. Remember the FAA books are free on the FAA website. King videos are great. I used them for all of my writtens except my CFI. Just remember, they get you ready for your written and just that. If it's not on the test, it's not on the video(as with any written test prep)Example: The only question the written may have about NOTAMs might be about FDC NOTAMS.Therefore they won't teach you anything about distant or local NOTAMS. Just sayin' that you should still plan on doing ground with your instructor in prep for you oral and to elaborate on things you'll need to know when actually flying. Also when you take your written take the one for your CFII as well. You can do them back to back and they're good for 2 years. Both test are the exact same and use the same question bank. Enough ranting. Good Luck. Quote
DOORGUNNER Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I used the sporty's instrument DVD's, I believe it cost around 249.00. Although I could have gotten by without them, I found the DVD's very helpful for all the areas of obtaining the rating. Quote
IFLY Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Example: The only question the written may have about NOTAMs might be about FDC NOTAMS.Therefore they won't teach you anything about distant or local NOTAMS. The FAA deleted the Local NOTAMs around July last year. Jerry Quote
1HeliCFI Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 (edited) I agree with rotorman, just get the DVD course. Don't forget there is an additional DVD for helicopters IFR that you should also purchase. It covers the regs that are Heli only. (reduced minimums, fuel, approach speeds, etc...) I think it is only another $20. I really like some of the ways they present the material, I use their methods a lot when doing ground with students. Edited January 22, 2009 by 1HeliCFI Quote
