gwynes Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Hey guys, While looking into flight schools, I came across this web-site and joined. Who better to ask than the people doing what I want to do. What are the best flight schools in the Jacksonville Fl area? I am planning to fly the air unit for the Sheriff's Office and need to get started by at least getting my private license now. Everywhere I have read has contradictory information and I was hoping for someone to paint the way for me. Thanks in advance. Gwynes Quote
priologpriolo Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Might want to try at St. Augustine or Keystone airports both use R-22 Robinsons. If you can get down to Ormond Beach Tomilson Aviation has a small fleet or Schwiezer 300CBI helicopters. Tomilson has a reputation for training Law Enforcement pilots. Good Luck!!! Quote
gwynes Posted October 11, 2009 Author Posted October 11, 2009 I keep hearing good things about Tomlinson.. thanks alot Quote
rjl2001 Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I think there is a school in Starke, called Aquila Aviation. When I visited them they seemed like a pretty good outfit, never flew with them though. Otherwise, I've also never heard anything bad about Tomlinson and remember them saying they train quite a bit of LE pilots. So are you already a deputy for JSO and a slot opened up? Just curious as that's a job I'd like to have in the future. Quote
FLHooker Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 When I was living in Palm Coast, FL I visited Tomlinson a couple of times. They seem to have really good aircraft (300's) and a good staff. Never flew with them, but I have a couple of buddies who have. I landed on the Aquila ramp once... wasn't too impressed with what I saw there... my opinion of course. CHAD Quote
FloridaCopters Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 You could fly in Tallahassee with me (I'm a CFII) in a nearly new R-44, for 400$/hour all inclusive. You could fly whenever you wanna fly. The helicopter would also be suitable for instrument training (Garmin 430 (WAAS) and HSI is installed). If anyone is interested, let me know it with a PM. I would be happy to tell more about it. Quote
MagicChair Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Aquila Aviation in Starke/Keystone Heights was a pretty good school/location to fly. Unfortunately, they went out of business a few months back. Tallahassee Helicopters has a 2008 R44 with IFR panel including HSI and Garmin 430 WAAS. It is available for straight rental (time building) for as low as $370. You can check them out at www.tallahassee-helicopters.com. Good luck! Quote
