napoleonpp Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Hello all, Afew months ago I finally got me a GoPro and I've made some nice videos with it already while flying. Now I would like to try and get the audio from the radios and between the crew members as well. Do you think it would be possible to buy the GoPro mic adapter below and a mic like the one below to capture the radio traffic? I'm thinking I could just lay the mic in my ear cup to record all the radio traffic? I found the video on YouTube in the first link which led me to the products. Basically a dirt bike rider has the same setup for his helmet. Just was curious if you guys think this might work in the earful. I'm aware they make splitters for aircraft that will perform this fine. However my aircraft do not have the standard plugin that these are made for unfortunately. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cYi-ZpNWeXY http://shop.gopro.com/accessories/3.5mm-mic-adapter/AMCCC-301.html#/start=1 http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-ME-52W-Noise-Canceling-Microphone/dp/B000MYPPPE Quote

napoleonpp Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 Sadly that won't work with the aircraft I fly. It has a unique plug-in that won't be sold online for a connector like this. That's why I have to kind of Jerry rig something up Quote
napoleonpp Posted December 30, 2015 Author Posted December 30, 2015 An Apache. The helmets plug-in is different than other Army helicopters and civilian helicopters. Quote
Jhanner1 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Yeah I'm jealous now, keep looking I'm sure it's been done at some point. Quote

ridethisbike Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Can you post a picture/the name of this plug? Maybe the community can identify it and help come up with a solution for you. As to your "mic in the earcup" solution... I've heard of people doing it. As long as you don't mind that extra wire hanging off you it should work just fine. Quote

Sadly I'm not gonna be at work for afew days and haven't been able to find a picture online of the plug-in. I guess I'll just try and place the mic in my ear cup. I don't think it would bother me at all. Quote
heliflyknow Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I've tried the mic in cup solution before, wasn't comfortable and didn't work too well. If you can I recommend using/borrowing an extra headset that has earcups that fit together when the headset isn't worn. It keeps the cord off of you, and gets better sound. Quote

They don't make headsets with this connector and there's only one ICS plug-in in each cockpit. I guess I'll just try the mic in the earcup and hope for the best. Quote
