Astro Posted June 20, 2016 Author Report Posted June 20, 2016 Just came on to check this and there was 10 users reading it, but only 5 guests, and of course 0 members, or anonymous, with Bing (2) and Yahoo (3)? Does that mean there are 2 Bingbots and 3 Yahoobots reading this? Are they perhaps advertisers? Quote
iChris Posted June 20, 2016 Report Posted June 20, 2016 (edited) A Google bot. Googlebot Googlebot is Google's web crawling bot (sometimes also called a "spider"). Crawling is the process by which Googlebot discovers new and updated pages to be added to the Google index. They use a huge set of computers to fetch (or "crawl") billions of pages on the web. Googlebot uses an algorithmic process: computer programs determine which sites to crawl, how often, and how many pages to fetch from each site. Googlebot's crawl process begins with a list of webpage URLs, generated from previous crawl processes and augmented with Sitemap data provided by webmasters. As Googlebot visits each of these websites it detects links (SRC and HREF) on each page and adds them to its list of pages to crawl. New sites, changes to existing sites, and dead links are noted and used to update the Google index. Edited June 20, 2016 by iChris Quote
Astro Posted June 21, 2016 Author Report Posted June 21, 2016 Huh, and I though he was just making a joke when said google bot. Quote
Gomer Pylot Posted June 21, 2016 Report Posted June 21, 2016 No joke. How did you think Google knew what was on all the webpages when you did a search? Same for Bing and Yahoo, and many, many others. All that information doesn't just magically appear, it has to be searched for, scraped, and stored. And it's a neverending process, going on 24/7/365. Quote
