EAGLE1 Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 I used to use a leather shoulder holster. I got tired of all the people complaining that my firearm was pointing at them out the back of the holster so I switched to a nylon rig. It is usually secured in the back seat where there is easy access if we deciede to land for some reason.(only 3 times in 12 years). I used to wear it religiously until I went through dunker training (we fly over a harbor) I deceided trying to swim in a flight suit with boots and a helmet was enough of a challenge and I did not need an extra 12 pounds around my waist or neck (remember you will be upside down in a hurry) while I was trying to egress the sinking helicopter. Heloplt Posted February 9, 2005 Posted February 9, 2005 Kind of a broad question. I have to assume (you know what assuming does) that you mean while flying. I have a holster attached to my survival/flotation vest that carries my firearm while flying. While out of the helo almost all of our flight crews carry in a shoulder holster because of the flight suit. If we are in a street uniform (court, off-duty/extra-duty job, etc) we have to carry on a Sam Brown style belt and the department issues a safariland "SLS" holster for the duty weapon. As a firearms instructor I can tell you that carrying your firearm in more than one type of holster as a norm is a VERY bad practice, but unfortunately due to the constraints of our environment it is either that or don't carry while flying, and as we have had occasion to land and take police action in the past not carrying a firearm isn't an option. As always-----IMHO Quote
